I want my role eventually to be a support player as a healer....LOTS of XP at that from WoW and was a decent healer there, it suits my play style and personality.

SO my question is what is the best path to achieving that goal.

Thanks for any help.

Get into a PvP corp and be a logi.

Logi is basically what is EvEs healers.

Stop talking about "healers" first.P

As this is a spaceship game, the support role you are looking for is called "logi", which means, you remote shield repair, or remote armor repair fellow fleet mates from within a logistic class ship, like the Bantam, Kirin, Augoror, Scythe, Scimitar, Guardian and more. Check the traits and requirements of those ships and adjust your skill plan accordingly.

Also you need a group to fly with, either in a corp or public fleets like Spectre Fleet.

I'm my own NPC alt.

Here is a guide to the "healer" comparable Logistics role in Eve. http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Guide_to_Logistics
If you are interested in a "mage" comparable role (also fleet support) http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/EWAR_Guide

This is hilarious and accurate.

But yes, you should spec into logistics ships. Maybe start with frigate logistics. If you want to really specialize in this, you can train into both shield and armor logi. After getting reasonably skilled into the logi frigates, I would then suggest you train into the logi cruisers.

In EVE you're not locked into any role. Train your logi related skills for sure, but keep in mind that outside of incursions, it's almost exclusively a PVP role. Your odds of finding a fleet where you can do logi will depend largely on the corp you join. A well skilled logi pilot can be hard to find and is highly valued, but train enough other stuff so that you have stuff you can do while not flying logi.

Maxim 6. If violence wasn’t your last resort, you failed to resort to enough of it.

Logis are always loved by almost all PvP Corps.

train (i prefer armors so ill go on with that, if you find a group that prefer shields then just swap):

1. Logistics V
2. Amarr Cruisers V
3. Gallente Cruisers V
4. Remote Armor Repairer V
5. the 4 (EM/Thermal/Explosive/Kinetic) Armor Compensations V
6. Capacitor Emissions Systems V
7. Repair Drone Operation V (optional)

all the core/fitting skills and you're set and ready to go. Lol

good luck! o7

This is good, and if you want a shorter train time, then start with the logistics frigates first.

Well you would be surprised at the number of "old" gamers here. EVE is the home of geriatric gamers.

You young pup! I've got a decade on you, a.k.a. "twenty-five for the twenty-fifth time".

Whenever I want to know how old I am, I do the math, as I can never remember my current age. Not kidding.

They say memory is the second thing to go. I don't remember what was first.

I was a healer in WoW for a few years before I came here. This game is 6 months older than WoW so it had none of the WoW influence that most other MMOs had. Eve is completely different from WoW and if you want to enjoy this game and / or be good at it you will have to pretty much unprogram the WoW out of your system. Or at least I did.

It doesn't have to be a huge problem and won't be as long as you play this game with an open mind.

I had a rough first several months in this game because I kept trying to play it as if it were that other game. I might be a little more hard-headed or maybe slower at picking up game mechanics than others. I'm not really sure on either of those but I just giving a little heads up to keep an open mind so hopefully your transition is a little smoother.

This game has one of the most mature player-bases around. You should fit right in.
