Define 'certain types' please.

Also...hisec? Lowsec? Null? Wormhole?

This is actually important, you know.

Everything in EVE is a trap.

And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)

You want to know what immorality in EVE Online looks like? Look no further than Ripard "Jester" Teg.

Nobody does it, as in, going to sit in a belt with you, with combat/logi ships, hours long doing nothing in case your enemy shows up. Too boring.

However, you could move your mining op in a mercenary outfit's home system, or next door, and have them keep an eye there to intervene if your enemy shows up. Or some variation on this.

Bottom line is, no one is going to specifically go and sit in a belt with you.

Having security while mining is a good idea.
Unfortunately, finding someone who's going to do it for pay is going to be tough.
It's not just the soul crushing boredom that's a factor, there's also the matter of activity times matching up between the hired help and the mining op.
The soul crushing boredom factor is not to be overlooked though.

Starrakatt's suggestion is probably the best when it comes to outside help, pay to do your thing in the back yard of someone scary.
Really though, your absolute best bet is to handle this internally.
You corp mates are the ones who are going to be invested in the project, so set up a division of labor.
One group watches paint dry (mining), and the other group watches the other group watch paint dry (security).

Come hell or high water, this sick world will know I was here.

@ op our mains had a similar issue until we contacted a wh corp. We come to an agreement with the wh guys and its been sweet for over 2yrs. Lost 6 hulks and an orca in those 2 yrs but made several billion in ores and more with pi as well as made some good friends. Just a thought

the merc idea definitely sounds like the best bet, id like to handle it internally within my corp but lack of man power seems to be the biggest factor in it not coming together

Profits from lowsec mining is not high enough for you to be able to hire protection.

If you are really serious about mining, then your goal is to get in a alliance/corp and rely on their protection.

the answer is: FRIENDS! join a corp or alliance that can provide you with protection while you mine via its Standing Fleets.

failing that: find a dead-end system somewhere and stick a scout on the gate. it's astounding to consider how many mining fleets could have been saved if only they'd stuck a scout on the gate to give them vital warning of danger.

In order to get a realistic reply from anyone you're going to need to say where the mining is going to happen and what you expect to need protection from.

Without that information how could someone give you a quote?

HS - protection from suicide gankers doesn't exist. Ship selection is your best option - skiff.

LS - in most places there will be some 'local' pvp types that pretty much allow or disallow anything on their turf. Be their friends or find someplace else to mine.

NPC null - There are a few places mining is doable, but you'll have to be ready to sit on the sidelines when folks pass through. Find an unused system and hope no one notices you.

SOV null - be assimilated or forget it.

WH - Join a wh corp that will accept indy folks. Join a wh alliance that takes indy corps (if keeping your corp whole is important to you). Find some cool guys and co-exist in a wh. You do your thing and they do theirs and you get free protection. OR claim your own wh.

Those are pretty much your options. Miner safety isn't really coded into the game. It never will be. Mercs sitting in a belt just in case just isn't going to happen. Players join merc corps for pew pew pew stuff, NOT sitting in a belt all day while you mine. You're asking a herd of cats to perform a synchronized swimming routine - they just aren't interested in that sort of activity.

Those are your choices. They all have some pros and cons. GL. If you're interested in exploring the wh stuff - send me a mail and I can probably get you in touch with some folks to talk to.

Fabian, you will not get any protection. The folks asking where you intend to mine are likely just looking to explode you themselves. The ones telling you that no one will sit there while you mine, or that theyll charge more than you can afford are telling you the truth.

Unless you are multiboxing and making billions of isk, you wont be able to pay for protection like that.
People need alot of money to sit on standby, you cant really mine that kind of profit without a small army.

So yes, you could proberly find protection, but that would mean you arent making ISK at all, because of the pricetag that comes with "stand by proteciton".

A stunningly beautiful missy

There is nothing finer, cept when they get all pissy
