Hi

I'm a new player and love Eve, but one thing that annoys me is that I can log in, start a mission, and 5 minutes later the shard shuts down and I get kicked, having to restart. Just today my friend got kicked while creating his first character. I think we could profit from a popup telling us a restart is incoming, of course with a checkbox to disable it for people who don't need it.

I don't know what this shard is what you're talking about but Eve runs in one server that restarts every day at 11:00 UTC.
You start reveiving notifications and popups one hour before it happens....
Last five minutes the warnings are in the middle of the screen.
There is no way to disable it because the server restarts.

another thing is that you are not looking for "shard closings" but socket closings, which has more to do with your antivirus and network settings than the game. There are also high-risk websites that can cause socket closures. Stop visiting them while playing EvE.
