Client freezes during character creation

I've made a number of attempts to create a 2nd character but after choosing race and clicking next the process and client freezes.

I'm using Mac and thus Wine but can't see this as an issue as main character log in and play is smooth.

I tried verifying cache but made no difference.

Any thoughts?
