Inactivity asset transfer

Mechanic that allows for players to designate a recipient of items in selected structures that can be placed into automatic asset safety if a player has not logged in for a selected period of time.

For example, player A sets up their 'will' with player B. Player A has selected full personal asset transfer to player B in case of 120 days of inactivity. Player A passes away IRL from a freak submarine depressurization accident and player B obtains access to items after 120 days of inactivity.

Any thoughts on a system like this?

Absolutely.
Add player access to captains office to inform the eve community about his freak accident.

This thought just came across my mind.
What kind off mother ****** you have to be if someone just died creeping for his assets.

Your to scared to go ask his wife for his account?

Having a will to instruct the world what you want done with your stuff when you die is common in everyday life, no one thinks of it as creepy in that case. Why would it be creepy to add that same capability to a game?
Families fight over will's everyday and no one considers that to be creepy why would it be creepy here in a game?

Family vs random guy on the internet.
You see the difference?
Also if eve was so important to him he might his account information marked in his testament.
Otherwise the eve account will be property of his closest relative.
And could claim access from ccp
And what they do with it is not anyone elses business.

Actually my son will gain access to most of my account steam eve PayPal and whatever.
All I did I have written down all needed information im a little book and have it locked at my local bank.

Prepare to be haunted by me if someone ever bother him over my leftovers

Virtual assets have no real world value. Second, virtual assets in EVE belong to CCP, not a related family member to any player who does indeed die IRL (or even the player if still alive). Not even sure the beneficiary could "take over the account". Maybe, but again, the items associated with that account all belong to CCP. We are simply renting them. So, if I put into my will that I leave all my EVE Stuff™ to my son I couldn't really do it as it would be like bequesting him a rental car from Avis.

And yeah, no to this idea.

If a player walks away from EVE and leaves 100 billion in his wallet...that is 100 billion effectively sunk out of the economy due to the virtual non-existence of capital markets in game.

You miss the point here, just not sure if you are unable to grasp it or if it is on purpose.
You have wondered off into linking things in real life to what happens in EvE. Mine was a simple response to a statement that it would be creepy for your EvE stuff to auto transfer if you go inactive. I simply pointed out that the real life process of a will and last testament does this and no one considers it "creepy" why would they consider it creepy if the function of a will was duplicated in EvE?

No one is saying you would have to do this, if you wanted to walk away from EvE and leave your stuff in hangers all over EvE that would be your choice and you could do that.

Moving on to the ISK sink aspect, considering the trillions of ISK that are floating around in the game a few billion one way or the other is not going to make any significant difference. Besides the person that receives the ships is likely to take them out and use them and lose them and that would be a good thing. If they simply tucked them away some place safe it changes nothing.
