In case anyone's wondering about people from CSM 11, we're collectively waiting until after the summit before any of us put in our announcements.

(Well, other than one person)

Woo! CSM XI!

u know taking copies of ur passport for anyone but the state is a criminal offence in some countrys?
In Germanys the penalty goes up to 300k for that offense for example.

Fortunately, this is, in such a general way, not correct. For further info, please look here (article is in German language).

Well, the Law is written in a very cryptic way. And often misunderstood.
The current jurisdiction suggest that ur practice is against german law (see VG Hannover – Urteil vom 28. November 2013, Az. 10 A 5342/11. 28. November 2013 )
exceptions exist in the FeV, GwG, SigV and TKG, neither of which apply here.
The statement from the BMI is p useless as they are no judicial power (compared to the ruling above)

Thank you for bringing this up but since we're not lawyers we won't dive deep into interpretations and just encourage everyone to abide by the law wherever they are and not do anything they are uncomfortable with :). If any advice is needed, we can be reached via the E mail address in the blog.

You need to send a scan of your ID or passport to every landlord when you want to rent a flat in Germany, or they will not even consider your application, so that is nonsense.

Even if there was some law in this regard, it is not enforced and nobody cares.

We really can't learn much of what they are doing because of the NDA.

Hey! The CSM for example was crucial in helping us get the Clone State features right in Ascension. They helped us know what we had right and guided us to a better path on some other parts of it. They've been a regular asset for the dev teams in chat channels throughout the term (we have one for each team and the CSM using HipChat). Devs have approached them regularly for a sentiment/sanity check on a bunch of changes and features.

You can check out their collection of weekly summaries here and you can find their latest summit minutes here.

Most of what they can't talk about is temporary and we try to do as little as we can of using the CSM as a vault for secrets :).

I wasn't aware it was temporary. How is it temporary? Is CSM 10 which has been out of office for a year now able to speak freely about what was said during their term without concern for the nda?

Or is it based on what CCP has already made public? For example after CCP announced the capital/citadel changes can all the discussions about who said what regarding them from CSM 10 and 11 now be revealed? Or are some things about capitals/citadels and those discussions still under NDA?

Part of the problems seems that there is no clear line and this chills speech. It seems to me as an outsider that there are some things that were clear they should not talk about (maybe 10-20%???). But then there are allot of things that its unclear whether they should talk about them. (pretty much everything else) Many things, like you say, are probably fine to talk about, but I think most csm don't want to come close to that line. So we mainly get information about what they ate.

We can see the minutes but they are notoriously vague as to who exactly said what. (edit: the weekly summaries are even worse for being vague) As a voter we, of course, would need this information to make informed decisions about who is actually representing us. Of course all of what I said assumes the CSM is supposed to be some sort of representative body and not just a more or less random focus group.
