Hi all,

I sent a buddy invite to someone, and they created a new Alpha account. Can a Core starter pack be applied to this Alpha? And if so, once the Core is applied, and they decide to subscribe, will the PLEX reward to my account still happen?

I know the Core pack isn't all that valuable, but the Cerebral Accelerator can be good to get them going as it's only a day or two old account.

Thanks o/

When I look at the details of the core starter pack and using it on an existing account, I'm seeing information from different sites that does not match up exactly.

This CCP page: https://support.eveonline.com/hc/en-us/articles/208729265-Core-Starter-Pack-on-Steam has a warning that a completely new Eve account will be created as part of using the pack and the account can only be accessed via Steam, but that's if you BUY the pack through Steam.

Purchasing a Starter Pack will initiate the creation of a new EVE account. This account cannot be combined with any existing EVE account (trial included) and has to be accessed separately through the Steam client.

On a different site that also sells the same pack http://www.wingamestore.com/product/4612/EVE-Online-Core-Starter-Pack/ the information about using the pack is not the same.

This product can only be used to create a new EVE Online account or to upgrade an existing trial account, and cannot be applied to existing paid accounts.

The way I read this, if your friend created their Eve account through Steam, it's not clear to me if they can use the pack on it. If they buy the pack through Steam, it looks like they can't use the pack on the account they have created. Buying and using the pack via Steam appears to create a completely new account and that new account can only be accessed via Steam.

If your friend created their Eve account without using Steam, it looks like they can buy the pack from a non-Steam online seller and use it on their existing account. They will become Omega for 30 days, then drop back to alpha when that 30 days ends.

Can they use the items in the pack as an alpha? I couldn't find an exact list of every single item in the pack to check, so I can't say for certain, but I would expect an alpha to be able to use almost everything in the pack since the pack is intended for new characters who have not started training any skills or have very low skills.

The one item that might be an issue is the blueprint for the Corax destroyer. Alpha characters can only use the ships of their starting race/empire. The Corax is a Caldari ship, so only an alpha character who started the game as Caldari will be able to fly it. Using the blueprint to build the ship is not a problem, it's flying the ship after it has been built that is the potential problem for your friend. If your friend did not pick Caldari as their starting race/empire they will be able to fly it during their 30 days as an Omega (they MUST train the Caldari Destroyer skill), but when the 30 days ends, they can't fly the Corax until they throw some money at CCP to become Omega again. If your friends character is Caldari, there should not be any issues flying a Corax.

It's nothing to fret over, the Corax isn't a special ship, your friend will not miss out on anything special if they are not Caldari. All the other races/empires have their own destroyers that are equivalent to the Corax.

Thanks for that - yep the wording of the packs really needs to be clearly updated by CCP, since there is no trial (and before, the content pack could be applied to a trial). The only real thing they wanted was the Cerebral Accelerator - but I think rather than wait for official answer, I'll just give him some cash to buy one from the market before the char gets too old.

Recruit a friend is VERY specific about what is allowed to activate the account to get the reward:From the terms and Condition page

To be eligible for rewards, the new Recruit account needs to be activated and the account Omega fee for the Recruit account received by CCP. The Recruit account Omega fee may not be paid using Direct Debit, any in-game currency or other game credits, including (but not limited to): PLEX, CD Keys, including CD Keys or CD-Key type Starter Packs purchased or received from non-CCP sources and online stores such as, but not limited to: Amazon Starter Pack and Game Stop.
