I just wanted to give my appreciation to CCP Snorlax and all the people who helped develope the Linux Launcher for EVE, you really saved me.

Long story short, i went back to college and dont have a gaming pc to play from, so i did a little graverobbing and mashed some old junkers together in a VN (not a JBOD, a Real VN)

These Old PCs had all kinds of viruses and malware on them, and none of them had a similar version of windows, so i took the plunge and did full wipes on all of them, then i installed Linux Ubuntu 16.04. i have never used Linux, nor was i as technically savvy as i thought i was!

Anyway, after 3 days I finally got this Frankenstein operational, i find out EVE has no native linux support! I was about to cry when i found this little subform. after a bit of fiddling and google-fuing i not only got eve to work, but at a better performance than ever before (atleast in relation to how eve was run previously on these machines on Windows OS)

tl;dr i managed to fumble through playing EVE on Ubuntu, and its all thanks to you guys!

i didnt grab any logs about how i finally got it working, but basically it went like this:

1.) install Ubuntu
2.) install ubuntu-restricted-extras
3.) download binaries from CCP Snorlax's handy link
4.) untar them into eve folder made on desktop
5.) open launcher binaries in Terminal
6.) sudo sh evelauncher.sh (THX PinkKnife)
First Error - Steam
7.) download and install steam from terminal
8.) sudo sh evelauncher.sh
9.) ???
10.) Flying my Internet spaceship in space

my best guess is that it didnt like not having steam installed on the disk.

AGAIN THANK YOU EVERYONE. I HOPE IN THE COMING MONTHS I WILL LEARN MORE ABOUT LINUX AND ACUTALLY BE USEFUL TO YOU.

May I ask why you're running the eve launcher with sudo?
