Arena Now!

Every decent MMO has one sort or another PvP arena. Strangely, EVE (the biggest sandbox MMO) doesn’t. Isn’t it time to make arena in EVE?

Yes, EVE already has PvP. But, for the most time, it is down to a random encounter of incomparable ships, or blobs, or fleets. And it’s getting boring, especially for elderly players. Well, try to recall yourself how often you were getting a “close” or “fair” fight.

So, CCP, please give us 1v1 Arena. It shouldn’t be that hard to implement. Probably could be done with existing game components.

For example:
(1) Add several Arena high-sec systems next to major trading hubs. So, players won’t need to travel 50 jumps to reship.
(2) Install in such Arena systems several acceleration gates with ship class restrictions:
a. T1 frigates (no pirate)
b. T2 frigates, pirate, T1 destroyers
c. T1 cruisers, T2 destroyers
d. T2 cruisers, T3 destroyers, T1 battlecruisers
e. T1 battleships, T2 battlecruisers
f. T2 battleships
(3) Make each acceleration gate to throw ships in pairs randomly to different spots.
(4) Introduce in-game leader board. Calculate points based on winner/looser ship costs. Say, with equal cost +1 point for winner, -1 point for looser. For 10 times cost difference, +0.1 point for winner, -0.1 point for looser.

Guys, if you like the idea, please hit that like button and bump.

Cheers!

The whole game is designed and though around using every tool you can to get yourself a leg up over your opponent. An arena goes counter to that so I have to say no.

Two guesses from my side:
- All of EVE is an Arena. The Devs are fans of the one big sandbox idea and don't like instances much?
- PVP is such an important part of EVE that if they gonna do it they are gonna do it right and no approach passed the early stages yet?

Even in equal ship, you can get "a leg up over", by having better fit, better tactics, better skills after all.
Once you got ISK to buy any ship, and SP to fly also any ship, and did gang, blobs, camps, roams, fleets for sevral years, what else to do? Not alking PvE here.

..... That's because Eve is a sandbox. Other games like Planetside 2 that are sandbox style games tend to also not have arenas because completely structured PvP goes somewhat counter to that sandbox ethic.

Arena isn't completely structured PvP. It's just another feature(tm) for a sandbox. No one forces to go to arena, if you don't like it.

Your idea was shot down when a DEV proposed it even if it allowed completely unmatched pair for their encounter because people want to be able to 3rd party or flat out curb stomp with friends. This is no better than the DEV proposal.

EvE already has the largest PvP arena of any game. You access it by clicking the "Undock" button.

Furthermore, this gigantic arena is insanely instanced: Regions, Constellations, Star Systems, Gated complexes, open complexes, gated complexes with different ship restrictions, open player created locations, so many arenas to chose from.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

My dear friend, I remember EVE when "unlock button" didn't exist, when one size modules did fit all ships, when several mwds were fittable on one ship. So, please, don't teach me how to unlock :).

Maybe, after staying in EVE for some more years, you will understand my point, which is: there was no new PvP content in years. Just adding various ship flavours doesn't count.

Watch out, we got a badass over here.

Seriously dude, Eve does not need instanced PvP. If you want to have structured one on ones or competitions, go use Sisi like everyone else.

Eve is like an addiction; you can't quit it until it quits you. Also, iderno

A person who makes a statement "EVE doesn't need instances PvP" :
a) has the balls to speak in the name of entire game community, hence must be an undeniable authority or a lead developer?
b) has his ass much more "bad" and bigger than mine :)

not really when one of eves biggest marketing points is the lack of instances...

Seriously, consider this:
- game becomes better when provides more content,
- EVE already has a sort of arena, it's called "alliance tournament", the only it happens once a year and for select few,
- adding same option for everyone and everyday can only be positive ,
- try to bring any argument how this can be negative for a game.

Well obviously I forgot that "whorums" serv primarily for epen ego boost, and its next to impossible to have a arguments discussion here. Should probably give up...

all of us currently out in WH/LS/FW currently looking for fights and generating organic content are now all just doing an arena leaving huge areas of the game abandoned. The game play created by this then dries up and players start to leave eve. the content they created is now gone causing the same thing to happen to the rest of eve untill you are left with a small group that has stayed just for the arenas

This is a kind of argument. But think on your statement.
You are saying that arena will be more attractive (better) than all other PvP? And all PvP players will migrate there, leaving space empty. I would disagree with you, and here is why:
- all PvE people will still remain in place (so you still can gank mission runners and haulers)
- all nullsec coprp/alliance people will remain in place (so you still can gank ratters and miners)
- before WH/FW existed (yes there were such times), people didn't leave EVE because there wasn't WH or FW. And when WH and FW were introduced, they didn't depopulate other areas, so why introduction of arena would?
- there will be always people who wouldn't like arena (as there are who don't like other singular aspects), hence populating other areas of the game.

You said yourself "looking for fights". That's exactly what I was trying to point out: you are spending an hour "looking", and as a result get either a gank, either are ganked, and very rarely getting a real fight. I would agree with you that some "lone wolf " players will migrate from LS to arenas, but certainly not all of them. After all, lost ships must be replaced, so they will be forced to act in other areas of the game. Actually, because of destructible assets, arena would have a minimal impact on game repartition. This is to the contrary of other MMOs, where assets are not destroyed.

no what i'm saying is instant gratification is more appealing to the human brain. I know it may be hard for the younger kids to understand how much better it is to work for something (hunting) as opposed to just have it handed to you(queuing)

if i want a space arena there are plenty of other games i can go play. if i want a fully open player run sandbox i have EvE
