is it profitable to build fuel in a citadel?

quick question..
citadel's modules consumes fuel when they run... right?
so if i produce fuel in a citadel i own.. i consume fuel to produce fuel..
it doesn't look very clever or am i missing some point?
wouldn't be more smart to make fuel in a station?
(do't be too cruel with me :D )

you can produce waaaay more fuel than you consume.

it's like eating. a hard day of work might consume a few thousand calories. but it's not hard to imagine that you can pluck a literal ton of apples that day (which would provide approximately 450.000 calories)

I think it comes down to the % cost decrease given the Citadel bonuses less the Fuel costs vs Station. That i guess will depend on how much fuel you are making and what Citadel bonuses you get.

If you are installing the manufacturing plant in a citadel for the sole purpose of making fuel then you will need to balance the capital cost of the service module plus the 12 fuel blocks per hour required to operate it against the NPC tax charged in a station. I suspect this calculation will favor producing fuel in the station.

A small POS with a component assembly array is cheaper than the Standup Manufacturing Plant, provides better bonuses and costs less fuel to operate. POS will be going away but not for a while. EDIT: You can deploy the POS when needed, make a batch of fuel and then take the POS down and store it until needed again.

On the other hand, if you can find a public engineering complex with the Structure Manufacturing Efficiency Rig installed you will be better off producing your fuel blocks there.

Just a quick "plug" for our public facilities - if you happen to be mining ice for fuel in Domain (or want to locate there) - we have public facilities (in Highsec) set up specifically for reprocessing and producing fuel blocks (and structure components). Tax rates apply ofc but are very reasonable - so its much cheaper to use our already existing facilities then to setup your own.

If anybody's interested you can just pm me for details yada yada.

i do miss another point then..
isn't the fuel consumption based on a "per cycle" basis?
so 1 blueprint cycle= 12 fuel consumed?

A cycle is an hour. It'll use the same amount of fuel if there are a million jobs running or none.
