I have a question about EVE and it's updates. What happens with a lot of updates ?
I meen does a lot change in space and does CCP ever bring new ships or other content to EVE ?

Maybe this is quite a noobish question, but i guess that is kind of allowed here in the new citizens section, i tried googling this question but not much turned up accept for old 'news' articles and a lot about the 'Alpha clones' that launched back in November.
I am just very curious what EVE brings in the game so now and then.

There is a patch every 5 weeks or so - 10 per year and last year we had 2 major expansions. The first half of this year will likely be tidyup from the major changes last year but we are expecting new structures in the second half of the year.

This website shows what has changed over the past couple of years and what's on the roadmap (that they're willing to talk about)
https://updates.eveonline.com/

Major announcements will generally be made at one of the 2 large player gatherings - Fanfest in the Spring (April 6-8 this year) and Eve Vegas in the fall.

In general, most changes are tweaks here and there regarding ship stats, the economy, territorial claims, and tools you can use with all of the above.

New ships do come in every so often... but the general idea behind new ships is that they have to fill some kind of niche or tactic first. Or be unique in ways that it will not step on the toes of an already existing ship.
(see: this isn't like other MMOs where DEVs come out with lots of new stuff and ignore the issue that said new stuff obsoletes older stuff... see also "Power Creep")

With regards to space... there are over 7000 systems in k-space ("known space") and another 5000 systems in w-space ("wormhole space").
The goal for the DEVs seems, by and large, to get players to spread out more and come into conflict with one another. The reason for this because players have a troubling tendency to concentrate themselves in certain areas of the map, get too comfortable, and not travel / venture very far from said areas.

And then there are "game changing" updates that introduce a whole new aspect to the game as a whole... affecting everyone and everything.
On average, these kinds of things come probably about once a year.
Right now, the DEVs seem to be focused on developing and revamping Citadels and "structure based" warfare.

All that said... even these conservative and small changes can have large effects through the game.
If one ship is buffed and/or nerfed, it changes what ships and tactics you see out in space.

If tweaks are made to industry, it can change what ships are modules are readily available and/or how cheap you can get them... which also affects what ships and tactics you see out in space.

Almost all of the "content" in EVE is player-driven. So if you want to see or do something "new" or "fresh"... you have to go out and make it happen.

We are the content in Eve.

Yes they do from time to time add new NPCs or change the AI but Eve is an open world single shard PvP sandbox so we don't get new raid bosses or anything like that. Also changes are made around a theoretical balance point so we don't have power creep in this game.

The last new ship added was the Porpoise. It was added in the Nov. 2016 "Ascension" release, which also added 3 engineering complex structures, and completely overhauled fleet boosting.

Previous to that, 4 new ships were added, Force Auxiliaries, in the Apr 2016 "Citadel" release, which also added 3 citadel structures, and overhauled carrier fighters (new light fighters added), and drones (also new mining drones added).

Previous to that, 4 new ships were added, Command Destroyers, in the Dec. 2015 release.

...

The next highly-anticipated major release will incude Drilling Platform structures, expected Winter 2017. These were delayed, which was not unexpected giving the huge impact they will have (moon mining, reactions(?), reprocessing, and asteroid mining(?)).

CCP is constantly adding to or improving the game. Watch Dev Blogs for future stuff, as well as the Upcoming Feature and Change Feedback Center.

EVE is about player created content, not PVE carrot on a stick grind content.

Thanks for all the replies! It is pretty clear to me now that EVE keeps evolving and not only on CCP content or updates they release but that the players in EVE are the most of the content. Also i think it is a nice idea that there are only new ships if there is a purpose for them, gives an extra feel to a ship.

As an example, the recent Ascension release buffed a mining vessel called the Rorqual. Some PvE gamers using Combat Carrier actually shifted from killing space rats, to this Rorqual mining ship. And for years and years, the groups they were part of were saying how they'd rather poke their eyes out rather than mine. (just points out that if its really overpowered, null players will be on it).

To me, thats a pretty radical shift from a combat centric gameplay, into a resource harvesting one, polar opposites.

Other changes are quality-of-life things, like a small UI shortcut here and there, being able to drag-link almost everything to the chatbox for reference, etc etc..

Then there's this one time.. ummm.. There's moon mining you see, and it is pretty lucrative (like disgusting amounts, lucrative) so the biggest gamer groups were on top of it, and secured that place in space where the best concentration of moons were found. CCP redistributed these moons into some other space after an update, so this big band of gamers had to invade that area of space for those moons. That's a couple thousand of gamers in that conflict that logged on day in and out to defend/invade systems etc..

Players can also lobby for and against changes (with various levels of effectiveness) You may want to pay attention to the CSM election, upcoming.
