Originally, I did it through making new accounts because I enjoy the particular playstyle. I think I've done about 20 trials, so 40ish weeks over 2 to 3 years. After about my 5th trial, someone showed me the secret back door I used on my main for a few months before I just let my main lapse and going back to doing trial alts off and on over a couple years.

My understanding of the back door is that it's the kind of thing that's bad to spread around too much (to the point that it becomes a problem) or it might start to be considered an exploit and get shut down. this has been my main playstyle for a while now, getting it shut down would be bad for me. So, be useful in regular help channel, build enough of a reputation as being helpful, not a spammer or a troll, so that people who have it will be willing to risk sharing it if you ask.

It would be nice if there was an official "ISD-lite" kind of role that people could apply for on their main characters. I'd have jumped on that years ago, where I've deliberately avoided applying to STAR because of commitment issues. Might be something to bring up with the CSM.
