Question about capital rules in highsec

Hello,

I was recently reading about dreadnought/titan mining in highsec for sh** and giggles, and while reading the rules for this there :

I'm 100% percent sure the rorqual is considered a capital ship as any other, but since minign is a fair thing to do as the rules say, is using the rorqual to mine in hs a breach of the thrid rule ? :

"A capital ship restricted (under normal game mechanics) to 0.4 space or lower may not be used to gain any sort of advantage over other players while in high security space."

There are no capital ships allowed in high-sec other than freighters and the Bowhead at this time.

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

A Capital ship like that can BE in high sec, it just can't GET there. You can not light a cyno in high sec and they can't use the high sec gates.

A long time ago we were able to build those ships in high sec, most of them (being used for what they were meant to) moved into low or null but some never left high sec. Those are still around and can still be flown there, but they can't be used in any form of PVP or to somehow gain another advantage.

The Rorq, as it was introduced WAY after those changes, never started in high sec nor can it get to high sec and as such the question is moot.

As far as OPs question goes - The intention behind those rules is clearly stated:

And while it lists "Mining" to be generally regarded as fair use, it also states that this might change. Just use common sense: If you are doing something with that ship you should not have in highsec that you could not do with a highsec legal ship, you are probably doing it wrong. And launching fighters/excavator drones definitely falls under that category, as well as activating an industrial core or panic button, if that is even possible.

Oh ok so it's only for people that managed at one point to get a capital in HS, and by so there can't be any rorqual in hs now, thanks for the clarification.

On the other hand a non-AFK rorqual would be pretty much completely CODE. proof; just press panic if suicide gankers show up.

There have been a few backdoors open up for capitals to highsec over the years, not just the first one. They've always been one time events after the first one. So I wouldn't say it's impossible for there to be a rorq in highsec. Even so, if you happen to get hold of one (it's illegal to advertise them to sell, so, um, good luck?) just make sure you don't do anything anyone would complain about. I believe the rule is "if anyone complains about what you're doing with your highsec capital, it's going straight to lowsec."

They could have a second set of ships waiting in a station, and time their undocks to match the panic mode timing out. Though maybe I'm giving CODE too much credit here.

They wouldn't have to. The second he'd use his panic button is the second he takes advantage of the special capabilities of his ship which gets him moved to LS by a GM.

There aren't any Rorquals in HS, so the question is academic.

But to answer you, if there were, you could mine with the Rorqual's drones, but that's not the point of the ship; the point of the ship is to provide a boost to the mining output of the rest of the fleet, to provide some "safety" via the PANIC invulnerability mode and remote repairs, to compress ore, to provide medical clone bay and ship refitting capabilities (in space), etc.

Using ANY of these capabilities would be a breach of the rules.

Hum, since now rorqual can mine and with a ton of yield, and everyone can easily compress their ore everywhere, I wonder if it's still relevant to only have the rorqual to compress in space.

But yes, for now I'll stick to my Rokh to mine for fun (I actually have the yield of orca with it lol.

actually there is one rorq in hisec.

in the same system where two chimera's 1 phoenix 1 moros 1 thanatos 1 revelation 1 archon and 1 naglafar are also docked.

its a 0.5 system in caldari

it was built there like the rest of those capital ships
