Having been around since 2009, and only recently bothering to pay for a subscription, rest of the time I have been online only during the free trial periods. (So I could say I was alpha before there were alphas)

So I will get to the questions.
-I dont quite fully understand the Project EVE thing, with the cells. Is there a point other than something to do while mining?

-Is there a stock market in game that you can buy and sell shares in corps?

-Is there plans for DUST to make it to PC and a return, the correct way?

I dont know a lot about EVE, I have always watched EVE from the outside, and never got into it. Dont like being a "ship", and the lack of Newtonian physics always kind of bothered me. But I have since let that go....

So I am sure I will have many more questions and comments as time goes on. But I will attempt to keep them to a minimum till I understand things.

I'm 45 now will be 46 this year. I've played this game with people in their 60's. When I first started back in 2009 I was one of the younger guys that I knew playing the game. The average age has dropped a bit over the years and I'm sure that the introduction of alphas has dropped it even more but it's still one of the more mature MMOs out there.

I don't know much about project Eve just that it helps some scientists in some way. There are plenty of dev blogs and some fanfest presentations on it if you care enough to look it up.

There are stocks but no official market. You have to find someone with share and then buy them from that person.

CCP mentioned that they were going to turn dust into a PC game. I don't play FPS games so my knowledge of it ends there.

If you don't like being in a ship and want to be OCD about physics in a Sci Fi game and are still around I'm not sure what to say about that.

Questions are fine.

Obviously when I started I was a noob, but I was a 57 year old noob.

I'll be 67 this year.

1. Project Discovery is an actual academic project, to find (they use the term 'map') the proteins in human cells and figure out what proteins are active for different cells / different tasks that the cell may take. It's basically a brute force approach: introduce a dye and see what it sticks to, in millions of different cell cultures at different stages in their life / function.

The scientists / researchers got the data (millions of microscope slides), but computers aren't good at distinguishing between the fuzzy images; they needed humans to look at the slides and try to categorize things, and their 4 unpaid interns aren't sufficient to deal with millions of slides.

So they ran a partnership with CCP to make the whole thing into a game, let our 100,000 playerbase look at the slides and categorize things. We get some outfits as rewards, the scientists get their slides categorized, and Microbiology / Genetic Science advance a little bit.

The project was pretty successful when first introduced, I believe we were getting 100,000 slides categorized per day or something like that, now it's down to a few thousand per day but still making progress.

2. Corporate shares are a thing that CCP introduced as a half-baked idea and never looked at again. They let you vote to kick your CEO out, that's about it.

3. I don't think DUST was a financial success, and they released it on consoles specifically because consoles were THE big thing at the time, much more popular and wide-spread than PC's. If it failed on consoles, it's unlikely it'll make them a profit on PC, given that there are plenty of good/popular FPS shooters on the PC already, and even e-sports quality ones. It's a similar situation to VR being the next big thing, and CCP trying it out with Valkyrie - if that's not a financial success, they'll drop the whole thing.

Currently CCP is working on Project Nova, supposed to be the successor of Dust 514. But it's still under construction, some footage is on youtube...

Not sure how I feel about that new project thing to replace DUST.. but meh, if it is good it may be fun.

The Project Discovery thing.. hmm, fascinating. I suck at biology and it feels like homework from my youth, homework I avoided then.

Thank you for the help, and the answers. I look forward to seeing where I go and what happens in this game.
