We all know how painful it is when we find that perfect ship SKIN, only to find out it's 300,000,000 isk. Let's face it, a lot of us probably don't have that kind of a budget. My idea is simple, and benefits many. Used as a type of "single run" (like a blueprint) with certain skills required, along with a list of materials to open up a basic color palette to make a single color selection from. Omega status would enable you to pursue this process of locating materials, manufacturing them, and finally crafting a ship SKIN. A basic color ship SKIN that you can keep, or sell on the market. Please comment if you agree, or have a similar idea for affordable ship SKINs. Big smile

Features and Ideas is where this should be, and there are ship skins that are more affordable.

I bought a Guristas skin for my Moa... and in hindsight, it'll likely get me shot xD

I would like it very much if SKIN's could drop from their corresponding DED sites or from an LP store.

If only we could be so lucky... It will be a full-on Hello Kitty theme or the full range of Pokemons.

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

sounds like the first thing we need Twisted

and AFAIK CCP was working on a skin tool that allowed for a lot of customization, however no idea where they are with that.

Perhaps EVE could have freedoms that scale up with the lower security you play.

So in high sec you get the nanny state, and in null sec you get a lot more freedom to fly a pink dildo, if you so desire.

I mean null sec is supposed to be lawless, or does lawless mean, it's okay to kill people but naughty bits are too much for us?

I'd like CCP to trust players more, especially considering everyone is the product of the conjunction of naughty bits. I'd also like to think that players might take an interest in creating stuff beyond flying boobies.

No thanks. Cosmetics should be useable by anyone and acquirable by anyone for isk.
If anything they need to get rid of the nes and make cosmetics l.p. store items and drops from npcs how it always should have been.

If the store remains aurum should be used on a player made skin to publish in on the store for a share of each sale in an isk value converted from aurum or just small amounts of aurum per sale since we would be making better skins than 90% of what's been in the store.

CCP has made SKINs available in many different ways, but want some to be "aspirational goals", not give-aways. A limited variety do drop in-game, some are time-limited. There's certainly room for player built SKIN's in the future, but that doesn't necessarily mean they will all be 'cheap'. It takes a lot of stuff to build Ascendency implants, the first player-built implant.

Look up the Rosada set if you want pink for your mining ships :)

Thanks for the suggestion. (And yeah, you'll have a better chance to get your ideas seen by the right developers if you put them in the Player Features and Ideas Discussion Forum.)

We know that we've barely scratched the surface of the types of customizations players would like to see for their ship looks. We have frequent discussions on Eve's art and graphics team about what's technically feasible, what can be done within a reasonable graphic performance budget, and what will meet our art quality standards.

I don't have anything to announce, but we certainly hear your request (and the many others like it). I'll make sure to pass along your thoughts to the rest of the team, and though we probably won't do exactly that (just as we don't proceed with many of our own ideas), it might help inspire whatever path we do take.

For what it is worth, I probably own a titan's worth of ship skins.

i.e. keep up the good work, but PLEASE stop issuing them faster than I can afford Blink

I'd say the skins out there so far are good, and I like Darwins well written reply to the OP. If I could make a suggestion, and for what it's worth I'm only some random on the forum, but I believe there could be more revenue from skins with a wider color palette for each of the races. I understand the vision of a grim dark eve, but people like pretty colours too, and I wonder if there would be any revenue in it?

Only a thought, keep on keeping on guys at CCP, you're too often under-appreciated!

This post brought to you by CCP's alpha forum alt initiative. Playing the eve forums has never come cheaper.

I'm sure there is. Try to compare the values and interest in this ultimate contrast: the Amarr Purity of the Throne lineup (white) with Cold Iron ("grim dark")

But the effect of SKINs in general is to satisfy each player as they look at their own ship: When interacting with other ships I spend most of my time zoomed out looking at icons and overview entries.

Right now only CCP knows for sure what is being used. The player's choice in active skin isn't recorded on killboards. The players would have another measure of popularity, if they were recorded on KMs, even though they are not lost.

Very simple, not every skim or item is for everyone.
People that play this game enough and can afford those skins are the ones that deserve them, not you.
