EVE Item Lost Report

Hello,

I took on a fun project this past week where I created a series of applications that collected data for the purpose of building a data warehouse around item/ship loss from zKillboard kill mails. The result was a online dashboard that shows you top item and ship losses by various attributes, which highlights potential market demand.

This is a work-in-progress report that will look at slices of time in the form of fiscal weeks. It will primarily focus on modules and ships that have been destroyed/dropped in the act of both PvP and PvE.

Data

The data is mined from zKillboard. Every killmail is ingested and analyzed for this report. Not all kills make it, some loss is expected either due to errors or failures to decode.

Other data is mined from EVE API. For example, items from zKillboard are matched against the EVE Crest API to pull both in-game details on said items and market history. This also includes the buy/sell history from EVE-Central, who provides bulk data dumps to their site.

Takeaways

The takeaway you will get from this report is a understanding of the top items and or ships lost from players who were involved in a combat event (PvP/PvE). Losses provide great insight into what items/ships are being purchased from the various EVE trade hubs and or non-trade hub markets. This in return will show you a demand.

Unfortunately, it will not tell you when and where that demand is. While location is a factor in this report, there is nothing to support the demand exists in the same location where the item/ship is lost. But, it's not out of the question. You can draw your own conclusions and the data at least will potentially support it.

Donations

Outside of doing this for fun, I'm also doing this in efforts to generate another revenue source. If you find the report useful, please consider a ISK donation to this character. Like most of you, I am a trader and live off the act of trade.

Does this include rigs? Or maybe they just haven't bubbled up to the top 10?

(As I commented on Reddit - great work, love seeing other folks use Tableau!)

Nope, I was going to do some side reports that included things like rigs, ammo and even drugs/boosters.

07 GJ, monitoring progress. Very interested in an Ammo chart.
