It's spelled R-a-v-e-n. Seriously though, you'll do better in almost every L4 wit something that allows you to vary the damage types.

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

You actually have 3 choices with the Tengu, all 3 can complete L4's without issue.

HML or HAML or RLML

HML
has better range
kills BS's quickly
kills frigates slowly

HAML
has poor range
kills BS's quickly
kills frigates slowly

RLML
has poor range
kills BS's slowly
kills frigates quickly

generic fit info

Subsystems
TDef - Amplification Node
TElec - Dissolution Sequencer
TEng - Augmented Capacitor
TOff - Accelerated Ejection Bay
TProp - Fuel Catalyst

Rigging Slots (choose from)
2-3x Capacitor Control Circuit
1x Warhead Calefaction Catalyst
2x Flare Catalyst + 1x Rigor Catalyst

High Slots (choose from)
6x HML
6x HAML
6x RLML

Medium Slots
1x Medium Shield Booster
2x Shield Hardeners (Mission Specific)
1x 10mn AB
(choose 2 from below)
or 1x Shield Boost Amplifier
or 1x Target Painter
or 1x Stasis Webifier
or 1x Missile Guidance Computer + Precision Script

Low Slots
3x Ballistic Control System
1x Missile Guidance Enhancer

Ignore the naysayers, unless of course you want a second job where ISK/hr is the critical essential reason for playing as fun is for children and irrelevant.

edit
Missiles come in 4 flavours .. EM, Kin, Therm, Expl
This might surprise some people it seems, but the Tengu can carry all 4 in it's cargo bay
imagine that .......

why would you? Accelerated Ejection Bay gives 25% to kinetic damage. thus kinetic is better for anything except EM-weak rats, i.e. sansha and blood raiders.

It's true that you probably can get better ISK/hr efficiency from other ships, and some will put out more DPS or tank harder. But unless you're worried about being as efficient as possible, just fly what you want.

Personally, I don't like the sluggishness of battleships, so I've been looking at taking the below fit for a spin. Also gives me a Tengu to go out and do exploration and other stuff if I want without buying a new hull.

It's not at all optimal, but it's cheap at 465M, does 840DPS up close and tanks 746 against guristas (which is probably way more than it needs) and is cap stable. That's with LVL5 skills in subsystems but my not perfect skills elsewhere, and a couple of 20M hardwirings. Hits 940DPS with all level 5 skills, and will go over 1K if you bling it just a little.

Seems a decent basis for you to build one on. I'm sure people will chime in with adjustments below too.

As for HML vs. HAMs, the fit above (at all level 5 skills) gets 940DPS at 36km, but changing them to heavy missiles gets 689DPS at 102km. So it's a toss-up of range and damage.

Battleships aren't as sluggish as they once were and you can purchase and fit more than a few for the same cost as a Tengu. But if one really has their heart set on a Tengu...

the fits are pretty much the same for HML or HAM, bcus in the lows, wee bit of tank in the mids with prop mod, T3 resists and sig mean you can get away with pretty much anything as a tank, I used a deadspace small shield booster with an EM and Invlun. Missiles in the highs.

The rigs are the one spot you might want to make a change. The tengu doesn't really need much from rigging so my choices are application rigs, range rigs, or a t2 rate of fire rig. My fits always used the t2 rof rig plus 2 flare rigs, but CCP has made a few changes since then. A lot of players seem to like the HAM fit with range rigs. And many like a bit more application with the HML fits. Also with the new missile guidance computer you might want to use one of those in the mids.
