Planetary resources depletion and restoration

Is there such a thing as resources depletion on the planet? When working with planets, while submitting the program for extractor control unit, it shows extraction degradation over time. So, what happens when program stops? If I restart the program, will be resources as new and fresh as they were before? Otherwise, how resources get renewed for the planet?

I do not know the specifics. Still, the general process is:

1 place your extractor in a location that is central to the resource you want.
2 extract. As you extract, resources are drained away.
3 when your cycle is over, start a new cycle by moving the extractor heads to the new optimal location.

Resource regeneration happens over time and seems to depend on planet type and resource. Also spots can deplete and change without you extracting. This seems to happen, even if you are the only one using a planet. So it is key to position your extractor where the extractor heads can reach as much different spots of resources as possible.

yes they deplete, ive made resource voids on null planets. if you drain all of the resources in the area you can move your extractors or switch resources. the drained resources will come back over time, how much I don't know.

Also bear in mind that you are likely not the only player harvesting the resource. You can view other players command centers.

The estimated yield is an average over the entire program. You will harvest a lot more at the beginning than at the end of your program. Make sure you buffer your extractors.

Resources will respawn, but not always immediately and not always at the same location. You can chase them around the planet - I'm too lazy. I accept reduced output for a week or two until I get a nice spawn within range of my colony.

I've also noticed that different resources move in different ways. On gas planets, for example, the resources that appear 'rings' seem to rotate around the planet over the course of days. While the 'organic' resources on a temparate world seem to move more randomly, but within a fairly well defined area.

There's actually a lot of subtle yet logical behaviors to notice about resource distributions, if you start looking for them. Complex organisms on temperate planets are almost always concentrated on landmasses, planktic colonies on oceanic planets tend to be dense in the deeper (darker) oceans, etc.

Not that it really matters once you get the planetology skills to IV, but it's pretty cool that the devs have linked resource distribution to the visual aspect of each planet.

Right click anywhere empty on the planet, "Show other player's structures". Faint command centers will then show up if there are any close enough to your installations; if you click them, it'll reveal that player's entire infrastructure on the planet. You can also right-click any of the structures to get the player's name.
