Where would one find listings of player channels?

(I always find it odd that certain SIGs get other people bent out of shape)

There's quite a few channels in game for sure, you just need to hunt them down a little!

Can't recommend any personally - bias and all that P

Question

What is the difference between Gay and Queer. Ive always wondered. And for you old schoolers do you mind so many different groups being lumped in together

Queer is sort of a blanket term for everyone who is not cisgender and heterosexual. However, not everyone who falls in that category might identify as queer, potentially due to the pejorative origins of the term, while others may wear it like a badge, which is probably why it's "LGBTQ+" instead of just "queer".

Can only speak of my experiences here in the USA as an Old Schooler.

Queer for the longest in the States was used as a slur against gays. Much like the Fa-word, or N-word. However, in recent years the Gay Community has started to take it back, and turn it into a positive expression. Without going Political, the Identity Politics craze/hysteria/division, along with Social Justice Warriors, has tarnished a lot of the other groups as "wannabes" in the sight of some. Again, this is from my experiences in Florida, in the Gay Community here.

Me personally, I think adding on letters is a unnecessary complication. GLB (gay, lesbian, bi), or GSB (gay, straight, bi) are perfectly fine without the rest of the Letters, and the Identity Politics behind them, interfering.

I am just saddened that there are people feel this compulsion to engage in self-segregation (with a subset who then later declare that they feel excluded, after segregating themselves), and others who feed that compulsion through their own intolerance and bigotry.

You are all my space brothers and sisters, and I refuse to put you in boxes - either of my own definition OR yours.

I don't think people who share an interest and / or something in common having a chat channel or something are segregating themselves. I don't see that as a big deal. Even corps made of people with a common interest or identity aren't a problem, imo. EvE has and has had many, many such groups / corps. No Problem.

OP, make a channel. You'll probably get people talking there.

You might want to start with "Backdoor Bandit" (character). He runs the Minmatar Gay Rights League and has a medal for Black Hole Probing.. Pretty sure he could help you out, judging by the look of him at least Pirate

Is there even a way to search for a channel that is intended for this kind of special interest group (i.e. where you'd expect at least a few hundred people potentially interested in taking part)?

Maybe I'm missing something, but I couldn't find a better way to search for existing channels than typing in a possible name, and looking to see if I got a new channel or connected to an existing one.

After that I lost interest in channels except those that CCP automatically add to new characters' "Channels" window. Even if an interesting special-interest channel was started at some point, too many potential participants (especially new players) will never find it.

FWIW I also think that CCP should provide the possibility for a character to be a member of more than one organization.
The "strict hierarchy" of Alliance/Corp/Character may be needed for some things, but that doesn't mean it's the only thing the game should allow. IMO another set of organizations that allowed many-many relationships and multiple memberships would be a good addition to EVE.

You're not missing anything, there is neither a search function nor a list of chat channels. Hilarious, isn't it? Lol

The best channel I can think of for a list if anyone is making one is the 'Women Gamers public' channel. I don't hang out in here personally and I'm not a moderator or in the real WGoE (Women Gamers of Eve) channel so I'm not sure what it's really like day-to-day in there but anyways in the MotD it states being trans-friendly.

Here's a link for more information from their MOTD

Gaining access to the secure channel requires a voice interview with one of the moderators.

It's something I've seen requested a fair bit over time, and have proposed in the past should look something like corp search in the recruitment window.

That said, people are increasingly switching to oog chat systems like slack and discord, which are pretty useful because discord has block/ban admin functionality, and slack has the functionality to log all chats (see tweetfleet slack and log system).

Instead of asking CCP to change ingame chats - which might take a lot of development time - it might be better to home in on these new services and see if someone (cough Steve) can come up with a public database of chat channels that are publicly available so people can search for channels by interest. Generally player run initiatives exceed what CCP can do so it's worth supporting the development of those long term.
