I've recently moved into null sec and have taken an intrest in combat site ratting. It's in angel cartel space and was hoping for some recommended fits that are on the cheap side. I can fly nearly anything but amarr and would prefer not to use strategic cruisers.

That's just a ship... Not very helpful without fittings....

A 100MN AB, a mild rat-appropriate tank, rat-appropriate heavy drones and drone damage amps.

It's hard to screw up VNI ratting. I mean, I know people who can do it, but it's hard.

about the 5th post down is the 100MN AB fit:

I haven't flown the VNI I'm more posting this to show you that a quick google search gets you several threads about ratting in the VNI with fits and tactics. Read some of that and if you have more specific questions ask them here, we'll be more than happy to help out.

However as with all things in Eve there is no one "right way" to do anything and you are much better off with the kind of advice that the posters before left rather than someone just linking a fit.

Thanks, my biggest concern was finding a fit that was up to date with today's current balances.

To build on something George Carlin once said, " I noticed they had disposable douche, and I was wondering, WHO WOULD WANT TO KEEP IT IN THE FIRST PLACE!?!"

Null ratting without a corp presence, get something throw away, jump to a clone you don't have expensive (for you) implants, and run out there and make money until you die, pod, repeat.

Been there, done that, it can be a riot of a good time. :) :)

I don't think that I've ever had a fit that I just used. In my first year or so of play I was having to modify the fits for my skills. After that I was modifing fits to suit my piloting style.

There are no magic bullet fits in this game. IMHO you are much better off being advised on how to fly the ship and / or what the important mods to fit are rather than just getting a fit and blindly using it.

You could also link us a fit and take comments on how to improve it. I think that could be helpful as well.

I also think that you should not be worried about just trying stuff out. You are going to have to get a feel for what the different mods do and how they effect your ship. You really can't do that if someone links you a fit and you just use it thinking it's "THE" fit for that ship and then just using that fit having no idea what makes it good and what makes it bad.

If you play around with fits and find ones that work better for you and ones that don't work as well, then you will be much better off with the knowledge gained from that experience than you would be with a better fit in the first place.

So go out there and play around. Don't be worried or afraid about trying stuff. It really is the only way that you will get better at this game.

Speed tanked drone cruisers should be your go to. Use T2 or Navy variant drones.

1) Vexor with 100mn AB, Shield Tanked.
2) Arbitrator, same setup.
3) VNI, same setup (I've personally used this with an active armor tank too, works okay).

From there, move onto a Gila or rattlesnake.
The gila should be shield tanked, heavy missiles, medium drones.
