Why did CCCP destroy gambling

I remember the times when we had things such as SOMERBlink and EVECasino, but then they got shutdown and with it murdered another fun aspect of player-driven content.

What did the liberal communists get from ruining the fun of gambling EVE Casinos?

Countries like the UK are banning online gambling so they got rid of it before there could be legal issues.

And it was a long time RMT thing.

"Most recently, Valve, the developer behind the popular PC FPS Counter Strike: Global Offensive, was notified by the Washington Gambling Commission that their practice of auctioning off “skins” in game violated gambling Laws of Washington state. According to the notice, using real money to purchase digital goods, and then gambling with those digital goods, constitutes gambling, and furthermore, there aren’t adequate measures in place to ensure that the participants are over the age of 18. Valve stated that they have issued 40 “Cease and desist” notices to the websites, and has declared that gambling in this fashion violates their rules."

Sure you can gamble in-game, there's nothing to stop you having a 1v1 @ The Sun for ISK100m. Guaranteeing the payout is another matter altogether.

What's been banned is using ISK on 'games of chance' via 'third party websites'. There are numerous good reasons for CCP to make this change, not least of which are the very real threats of litigation. Another one is the problem of RMT activities washing through alongside *legit* gambling activities.

The best, imho, reason for banning external gambling sites is removing the ability of the casino operators to build up vast, festering mountains of ISK all 100% Risk Free. The only way to inderdict or disrupt IWI or SOMER's cash-flow would have been to commit real-world computer crimes. This was A Bad Thing for the EVE Sandbox.

Because it was slowly destroying the game. It started out as a fun little entertainment thing, but then some people realized that it had the potential to bring in SERIOUS cash. Trillions upon trillions of ISK.

The Casino War ultimately proved how bad it got, when a single person was able to pay literally every major alliance in EVE to attack The Imperium because of a personal grudge. Real world legal issues not withstanding, CCP saw how bad it was getting and decided to put a stop to it, and rightly so. Only a couple months later and the effects of this ban and the trillions of confiscated ISK can be clearly felt and seen on the map.

CCP Has no backbone. That is why. There is some new laws and court cases in usa and eu and they shut down decade old institutions like eohpoker. It's a damn shame
