Outside of the conditions listed by the ISD above, all scams in game are 'regular' in this game. Get creative and scam the guy back.

I'll give you an example. A month into the game I went into lowsec and died immediately. I messaged the person who killed me asking why he killed me. He spent 30 minutes explaining the game to me and gave me 20 million ISK for not rage quitting. After that I spent the next month purposely dying in frigates to people in lowsec and getting donations from them for being the 'innocent newbie who actually wants to learn'.

EVE rewards creativity, even with scamming. Stay away from the hard rules of what you can't do and have fun with it.

Thanks for the writeup. It's always enlightening to read about other players experiences.

I have just one comment: If your fit contains Warp Core Stabs, then you are not fit for PvP. You should not judge the PvP experience based on that.

When you hit undock you concent to PVP. It's that simple. You are not safe when you are in space, scamming is allowed as well as theft.

Sure, sure. But if you are fit for running away, Warp Core Stabs and all, the best outcome of a PvP situation would be to successfully avoid it, and the worst outcome would be to get caught while flying a gimped ship and get killed with little chance of fighting back. It's a no win scenario if you are looking to rate the PvP experience.

As I said, its was a station in 0,9 system. The contract "warned" me that I have to check the docking status of the sation, what I did. But the status have been changed during my fly. How should I know as a rooky, that clients can change the status even during an open contract? Makes no sense.

I think the reward was ~12Mio. for ~12 jumps. The problem was that I was not able to see what I will deliver because CCP denies previews. With preview I would have seen that the freight is worthless = scam.

No, I bought no PLEX. Money making was relatively easy for me. After 40 days I had ~750 Mio. cash and ~300 Mio. ships, loot, etc. I did mainly rat hunting (clone soldier gives 1Mio. bounty + 1,5 Mio loot) and trading (bought stuff in my system and sold it in Dodixi, so I made 20 - 50 Mio. per flight). But I want my ISK back, from principle.

It was a citadel in a 0.9 system not a station. And why do you refer tot he 0.9 system as a starter system? Starter systems are 1.0 and there are only a few things not allowed in those systems, and scamming isn't one of them. Citadels are player owned and they can restrict access to them. Like I said the contract would have warned that the delivery station (contracts see citadels as stations like they do outposts and access to outposts can also be restricted yet another player owned structure/station) may not be accessible. It will give this warning regardless of whether it is or not. It is completely likely that you started out having no access at all before you accepted the contract and that it didn't change after you accepted the contract.

I assumed that you plexed yourself isk because you eluded to CCP somehow being party to these scams to benefit themselves. The only way they benefit is if someone bought a plex to sell to another player for isk. I see a scam involving real money as worse than a scam that doesn't but in both cases I blame the person who got scammed. Your scam didn't involve real money, jsut time and effort. Learn from it and continue making more isk the way you have been that was successful. Why allow a 500mil isk loss ruin it for you? 500mil isn't even that much.

If it consoles you OP I can admit to being scammed too, by an isk doubler no less! He had faked a website linked to his wallet to make it seem like he was sending people money, I had serious doubts, but I couldn't think how he faked it. I lost 400m that day.

Another day I was flying most of my belongings from Amarr to Dodixie in a hauler and I was scrammed and popped by a lone vexor before concord could save me. I lost 750m that day.

Point is eve is a game where losses happen. I didn't let either of those losses bother me, instead I asked myself how I could have prevented the situation for next time, and in fact learned life lessons in the process.

This post brought to you by CCP's alpha forum alt initiative. Playing the eve forums has never come cheaper.

Ah, I never judged it. It's only my personal view. As I wrote, EVE PvP and I never got real friends^^ so I came to the conclusion that it's better for me to avoid fights. But I also wrote that PvP is in my opinion the main reason for players to become an Omega. So I appreciate that PvP is very popular in EVE, but I dont like it so much.

well that review started off nice, and quickly declined into a whine about getting scammed, and losing in pvp. Why do these posts always start with a nice game and quickly say but you should totally change this one thing?

so you got scammed, well that sucks. You were going to lose something at some point, and as they say don't fly what you can't afford to lose, well you flew what you couldn't afford to lose. What would you have done if it was a legit contract and you got suicide ganked instead? Or say you went on a trade run and the offer was gone when you got back, or you miss typed a number and sold for 1 mil instead of 1 bil. Pretty much all of us here have made one or more of those mistakes, and we bounced back and stuck with it, you quit and came to the forums whining.

as for pvp try faction warfare systems, most of these areas have a lot of t1 frig pvp going on as the small complexes can only be accessed by t1 frigs. This is also one of those times where the phrase "join a corp" means a lot. Much easier to learn the basics with a few other people helping. I watched a few streams the other day of people doing just that. There is also nullsec where many overconfident pilots will jump on a newbie in a t1 frig and make mistakes that allow the frig to win.

Aye, there's surprisingly many people in Eve who think like that, and frankly, I thought like that too, initially. I just wasn't a PvP kind of guy. However, this changed just a couple weeks in.

From my own experience and from my interactions with newbies, I can tell you that it takes just that one "trigger moment" to get into it. For me, it was a canflipper (a stupid, mean mechanic from the olden days: Some dude, usually in a frigate would fly up to a mining Barge or Mining Cruiser in Highsec, drop a jetcan and move the miners ore from the miners can to their own. If the miner moved the ore back, that would allow the frigate pilot to engage in combat, typically resulting in a dead miner. It's not really a thing anymore these days.). I lost a mining cruiser (that was a thing) and the guy convoed me to tell me where I went wrong. I asked a bunch of questions, he liked that and invited me to join him and his posse of dishonourable evildoers, and I never went back to mining from there.

It may be something else for you, it may be a war dec, it may be a scam or a loss in lowsec, or it may not be for you at all. Who knows? In the end, Eve is certainly not for everyone. But I wouldn't give up on it just yet. Just keep in mind that Eve is inherently unfair, and that Eve players, at least as long as they are playing the game (Which can stretch way beyond the boundaries of the game client, mind you! For example, the Eve online forums are generally considered to be a part of the game as well, for the most part. So I could be trying to lure you into a trap either for gain or just s\\ts and giggles right now. Who knows? ;) ) are evil, scheming, lying bastards who will take every opportunity to f\\k you over. I have some good friends, who I would not trust in the game, because I know the way they play and who may not always be on the same side as me. The flipside of this is, that there's not a lot that feels better than winning even though it's unfair and the odds are against you. And even if you don't, you can still be that guy too, and believe me, being an evil, scheming, lying bastard every now and then is f\\king awesome.

Eve is not exactly stellar when it comes to peaceful building, and going on heroic adventures, but it's unmatched when it comes to murder, treason, thievery and machiavellian power struggles. Mining and Missions and Trading and Industry may all be ok in their own right, but they are only means to an end. Embrace the skullduggery!

You've found more fair fights than I have in the last 40 days.

Granted, at least some of the unfair ones I found were unfair in my favour, which I suspect is the actual issue for you?

Okay, I definitely agree that your evaluation is pretty good. The contract scams are actually pretty easy to avoid; just be sitting right outside of the start point when you accept them. Either that, or just don't accept contracts with start points in citadels, unless the person doesn't have the power to change docking perms. I've played for about a month, and I'll just post mine up:
Mining: 7/10. Easy to start, pretty efficient at making money. Not too hard to upscale, and it's tolerable when you do it as a group.
Industry: 6/10. Very expensive to do. Either requires lots of time exploring or lots of ISK buying blueprints. Nice, straightforward UI though.
Trade: 9/10. Very nice, good automated functions. Very immersive, heck, you can even get scammed like you can IRL if you aren't careful. And a lot of the time, they aren't caught. xD
PvP: 10/10. PvP drives the game. It's not supposed to be fair, realistically. And it really isn't, most of the time. It's who's got a bigger set of guns that they can use.
Transportation: 3/10: Very hard to move stuff from A to B. Why the heck isn't there a 'ship to' option with the NPC corps? I'd be fine paying more for it than a contract, as NPC's don't scam.
Scanning/Salvaging: 8/10. Really easy to scan, and pretty cheap to salvage.
Planetary: Looked at the stuff; the UI is pretty intuitive, but I couldn't afford any of it and Alpha's can't really use it at all anyway, considering nothing can be exported.
Quests: 7/10. Very good quest system for a PVP game.
Community: 8/10. Very active, and very alive. Certainly is interesting.
Support: n/a. Never needed it.

Anyway, I've only ever lost 1 ship to a non-required cause (a basic Venture because I had the balls to go lowsec and go afk) and I've only been jumped once or twice by players. Given that it's really easy to run, especially with predictable entry points (everyone warps to 0...) I've never really lost a ship to them. (Venture was lost to a NPC battleship.)

Roggo, why are you still here?

You quit, but are so curious about the answers to your whine. Ha, you can't let it go. You've gotten some compassion, and harsh criticism. You even got a rep to reply.

So with all your limited Alpha skills, how could you be really good at anything? You can't, and obviously were weren't.

But somehow, you sure gained the knowledge to do many things in such a short time, and made a lot of isk.

IMO, you are an Alpha made by someone with a Omega account. That's the only answer I can come up with.

I normally play a game called RIFT (for 2,5 years now) You can find me under the name "Roggo" on server Brutwacht. In Nov. Trion published an unfinished expansion, so I decided to have a longer break until christmas time. If they were able to fix the biggest problems I would buy the expansion, if not I woult start to play a new game. In the meanwhile I heared that EVE is f2p now and I just tried it out. But one week ago, I bought the RIFT expansion, so for the next year "I have my game".

After two weeks of playing EVE I decided to make a review, because when I started I missed such a thing to get an impression. I know Iam a bit late, but as I said, I currently spend most of my sparetime in RIFT. And when I open an article, I also spend the time to discuss with the people and share opinions.

If you want you can log in onto Rift (partly f2p) and we can play together.^^ Its funny, in Rift I spend 90% of the time with PvP.^^
