Already stuck in the Alpha Clone Tutorial

As a newly-fledged Gallante, once I have finally followed the tutorial to actually enter the starbase and do a little fitting out of my ship, the next mission is to proceed to "the next system" and go to a research station.

Either the mission doesn't say which system to go to, or I missed it, and it appears there is no way to recap the mission orders. I jumped out to every system from the starting base (U of Caille, in my case), and no research station appears in the Info Box, nor any locator symbol. Be nice to know which system is the one in question.

The system is randomly picked (which is why the voice-over actor doesn't actually say its name), and can be several jumps away. May be Trosserre.

You should have a link to it on the left side of the screen, under Operations Info Panel. It should say something like Set Destination or Warp To Location.

Warp to Location means it's in the solar system where you are.

Set Destination means it's somewhere else, and clicking that will make the autopilot set a path, and color the correct stargates yellow. Then all you have to do is turn on the autopilot.

I second what was said above, but don't turn on autopilot. Just right click the farthest left system and select Jump Through Stargate. It'll warp you to 0m away and then activate the jump gate ASAP. Rinse and repeat until you're there. Don't ever let the invis from a gate jump run down before you warp to the next one.

The tutorial has a specific step of "turn on the autopilot" at that particular point in time and may not progress if he doesn't follow instructions.

You can, however, click the "warp to 0" option as suggested above, and turn on the autopilot mid-warp.

Soon as you're done with the tutorial, you can feel free to forget that autopilot even exists.

Unfortunately, the Operations Info Panel does not mention any system. It just says "Travel to System." That's checked, since I have jumped to many systems by now. Then it has "Activate Autopilot" (as Mr Baas says), then "Travel to Site." But as I have no site located (and am currently in the College starbase) I can't fulfill that requirement. I may end up having to skip this part of the tutorial, since I can see no way of finding out what system they want me to go to to complete it. Which is unfortunate. Even if the system is randomly-chosen, it could be saved somewhere (the Journal, perhaps?) so one could know what his target was (I happened to be interrupted in the middle of this task, and my short-term memory isn't going to retain that sort of info for very long!)

This would be your best answer, you can also ask in the Rookie Help channel.

@Max: with around 3000 in the rookie channel, the times I have asked are apparently lost in the noise, and there has been no response in the Local channel, either. (I usually post questions like these in forums as a last resort). But if the system is chosen randomly, as Mr Baas says, then there would be no definitive answer, anyway.

It appears that the station is in the Vitteyn system, since when I click on "set destination" in any other system, it sends me there, and now the Operations Info Panel is telling me to "Travel to the site." But no "site" appears in the Info Box, and there is no "Location Marker" there, either. I'm obviously missing something trivial and elemental, but damned if I can figure what. And clicking "Travel to the Site" gets me nowhere, there is no option to "set destination" in Vitteyn.

Two of the stations in Vitteyn have a "Warp to Destination" selector below "Travel to Site," and two do not. But clicking it does not set a destination.

The Info Panel shows me five Stargates, two square "station" indicators, and two other indicators for a "citadel" and an "engineering complex." If I dock at either of the latter two, the "Warp to Destination" button appears (but does nothing), in the former two it does not. Aside from the odd ship travelling through, there is nothing else shown in the Info Panel.

The "Travel to Site" on the left side of the screen under Operations Info Panel isn't an instruction to you, it's a link. Undock your ship and click it.

@Memphis Baas: I appreciate you sticking with this. I have already tried that, but whenever I undock, the Operations Info Panel and the "Warp to Location" instruction disappears. If I try to engage the autopilot, Aura keeps telling me "No waypoint set."

That noise you hear is the grinding of teeth. :)

Well then open the info panel again.

Notice the line of icons at the top left edge of the screen.

https://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/all-hail-the-info-panels/

The Aura icon looks like a robot with a Mohawk, to me at least.

If the info-panel is closed, the icon is white. If it is open, the icon is grey,

I suspect you can also right-click in space to get the sub-menu to set destination.

@Tau Cabalander: Well, that's a fine how-do-you-do. I was only looking all over the bloody display for a way to open the info panel. Maybe the tutorial should have a "blockhead mode" with flashing neon arrows that point to the icons you need. I thought they were just space junk.

At least I found out there was a notepad to use. A recent stroke made handwriting a bit problematical.

Thanks everyone for that help. Now to do something else unutterably stupid.

Acceleration gates was causing me trouble.

This game would benefit from a "blockhead mode"

It happens to most of us at some point. I remember getting into a tearing fury trying to do the exploration career agent and simply not being able to understand how the probes determined a destination.

Luckily the helpful people on this forum gave me guidance and a video link that made everything suddenly clear as day. I don't think CCP could code for every variation of the 'blockhead' moment, so as befits a community based game, we help each other out.
