ALRIGHT, let's get to it.

Clones themselves and the pods they use are one of the most interesting pieces of lore in Eve, and while much is discussed, there is also much that we don't know.

So I'll try and sum up what many believe to be true.
(Take it all with a grain of salt, I'm a newbie Alpha, and don't know HALF of the citations that people find)

What We Know
1. The ability to integrate with pods is largely determined by genetics.
2. All pods are outfitted with Transneural Brain Scanners (I'll call it TBS for short) Which can transfer memories upon death.
3. It is possible to die outside your pod, and can result in perma-death.
4. It is also possible to create literal memory backups to use in clones in the event you do die outside your pod.

What We Don't Know

1. Whether or not a clone has to be an EXACT genetic copy as the original pilot
2. If original DNA is kept on file, or if the clone's DNA is used. (This is largely important due to issues that could arise from exposure to something like solar radiation)
3. If clones are fertile (Both pilot and Dust clones)
4. if it is possible to upload a single set of memories into multiple clones. (I.E. Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V to the Xth power the psyche of Jango Fett or something)

There are many more questions that probably exist, and I expect a lot more to pop up in the comments.

What do you guys think on the set of unknowns presented? Does anyone have any clear idea about what happens, or any conspiracy theories to add on top? Please Share Big smile

The Backstory Scientific Articles has a lot of information pre-Alpha/Omega. From playing this game over a year ago, (and coming back) you had to keep your backup clone up to date; by buying a clone that could handle the Skillpoints you were at. That seems not to be the case anymore. All backup clones, can support what Skills you've already trained. From what I've seen.

EDIT: Also seems you don't have to pay for your backup clone either. Just to set your Home Station, in where you will be brought back online when you're podded.

CCP Falcon and CCP Logibro posted a lot of detailed answers there.
