Hey mate,

sorry if i missed it in one of the last replies, i haven´t read all of them.

Jetmining is dangerous, because other players can steal your ore... but you can buy giant secure containers!
Please check if you can anchor those with an Alpha Clone, because i cannot look it up right now. But you only need Anchoring I to do so.

It holds 3900m³ of ore, if i remember correctly and can be secured with a password!

Take 5 of them and place them in belt... fill them... come with a hauler and collect them. When the Belt respawns its ore, your containers are still there and you can fill them again.

Just to mention.

And you cannot go online with another Alpha at the same time on one machine. If you have a Laptop beside you, you could. But just do it with your main. Search for a System nobody cares about, but not to far from any Tradehub and then just setup your containers, fill them, get a hauler, clear the containers, store ore in station and get your venture - rinse and repeat.

Also consider gas harvesting, which is the most valuable mining in the game and can be done very effectively in a venture. Granted it's also fairly dangerous, but no risk, no reward. Gas clouds don't exist in highsec, but if you set up a base in a backwater system in lowsec, you can scan down gas clouds there as well as scan down wormholes with gas in them and mine that. There's more time scanning and looking for the clouds, but when you find one it can be very valuable, and it's a lot more exciting as well.

You'll definitely die more often, but you would learn how the "end game" so to speak works a lot quicker.

A few more general mining tips:

1) If you are mining into GSC's you want to buy TWO sets. Go to get them in the hauler you will be emptying them with. Buy and assemble them one at a time until you fill up the hauler. Then repackage them and buy another set. You deploy one set but keep the other in you hauler and empty the deployed set into it. Since GSC's magically hold more volume than they take up - these are also good things to have in your hauler hold simply to give it more capacity. Additionally, people scanning your ship may not be able to see what is inside the GSC's ... but I've forgotten the details on that. You can only anchor GSC's in a certain system security level or lower. I think it's 7 - but check. Make sure you anchor them or someone will come along and suck them up. One more thing is that once you graduate to mining barges, GSC's don't hold enough to be useful, compared to a jet can.

The downside to using GSC's to increase your cargo capacity is that if you are hauling for a mining op and repeatedly going back and forth from the station - having to empty all those GSC's - adds significantly to your turn around time.

2) In case I didn't mention it before - I wouldn't jet can in the belts alone - but it works well in Mission space. One problem is that when you come to pick up the jet cans with your hauler - haulers are dead slow. So - if the jet can's are spread out it may be faster to book mark each one and (after you have turned the mission in) warp to them individually then back to the station. Fitting a Tractor Beam to your hauler can help pull them in.

One thing you can do with jet can's in the belt is team mine. Here - you have some people in mining ships and others in haulers. You put a bookmark or something else worthless into the jet can to keep it open. The miner then moves his ore into the jet can and the hauler moves it right out. You don't leave the ore in the jet can longer than it takes the hauler to take it out. Whether it is worth having people haulers as opposed to miners - depends on how much they can mine. Usually these are non-miner characters who couldn't make much of a contribution anyway - though you can put a miner and a tractor beam on their hauler. The fact that mining ships now have ore holds that can hold a lot more ore than they used to is a factor in this.

If you see someone come into your belt - do a look on them and watch where they are heading. If they are heading for your jet can, pull the bookmark you are keeping it open with and the jet can - which should always be empty - pops. They will see you are alert and go bother someone else. If they don't - you can wait them out or YOU can go somewhere else.

3) Another thing that can be useful in Mission Space, Jet Can Mining - is your Salvager Destroyer. This is a destroyer fitted with some mix of tractor beams and salvagers. You run your missions in your combat ship, book mark the mission space, then come back with your salvager destroyer and jet around tractoring your wrecks, salvaging them as you go. This ship can also be used to go around a mission area, pulling jet cans together in one spot to make them easier to empty by a hauler. You can also pull around a jet can with your wrecks as you salvage them and empty the loot/salvage into it. Be aware that there are people who's job is to scan down mission runners and steal their salvage. What is funny though is to run level one missions in these areas - and then watch the loot stealer taking all that level 1 loot. All of sudden - they will realize that you did not kill battleships - and be gone.

4) Mining is always easier in a quiet system. Look at the map of EVE and set the filter to show pilots in space - then go where they aren't. Mining in Mission Space - in a quiet system - you stand a very low chance of being bothered.

5) If you are salvaging or hauling in from multiple locations you can go into your People and Places and sort by Date. This can put all your recent bookmarks in order and you can go fetch them in order, oldest first - so they don't expire while you are in transit.

6) If you are moving a slow ship from one place to another within a belt or other small area - it is often quicker to bookmark the location you are going to - warp to a planet - and then warp back to your bookmark.

One thing i haven´t tested yet - A mobile tractor unit

What happens if you anchor this in the belt and jetcan all your ore everytime the cargo is full? It holds around 26k m³ as far as i know... It can be destroyed of course, but for those minutes you hop into your industrial this should be ok i guess?

But it would be a viable option.

One classical use for the Mobile Tractor unit is mining in a Covetor. As you know the Covetor has inferior ore hold capacity, but, is far superior when it comes to mining yield. So typical practice here is to deploy an MTU well away from the belt warp in location and then mine with the Covetor. Every two or three cycles the Covetor will need to jettison the ore, which is then scooped up by the MTU. Once you fill the MTU, cans will still be pulled in and be collected around it.

The cans will survive in space for 1.5 hr, and before this time you should dock at station and return with a Misamos. In 1.5 hrs of mining with a Covetor it is possible to fill a Miasmos 3 times over. If you bookmark the MTU and warp to it directly, the Miasmos recovery operation is very quick.

Also, don't forget to keep a Cruiser or Battlecruiser docked in the nearby station. If someone were to agro your MTU, or starts can-flipping, you need to be prepared to take them out. Never engage with your Covetor because it's tank is paper thin. Keep an eye on D-scan, and keep your Covetor aligned. It is super slow getting to warp.

So much information that I admit to only scanning this so for give me if this has been mentioned and I missed it.

An alternative to the jet can is a secure container anchored in space, just remember that even the largest holds less than the ore hold on your Venture. They are more secure than a jet can but come with a set of unique problems. A caution I have not investigated if the Alpha clones can use these so you will have to check that as well.
Here is a link on mining in EvE, please see the section titled Jetcan and GSC Mining for information specific to these secure containers.

Oh and the secure containers come in many different sizes so there is likely to be one that will work for you.

Great information thank you all very much. I am now seriously considering going Omega as I have been Alpha for nearly a month and would like to explore more options and ships etc which I cannot as an Alpha. Thanks again!!
