Eve Gate Collapse 2.0
With extremely little warning, unknown forces would trigger the destabilization of all Thera connections and reassign the home station medical clone of all players inside Thera to one of the SoE sanctuary stations. Furthermore, players are blocked from being able to jump clone out of Thera (due to cataclysmic wormhole collapse). Players outside Thera would likewise be blocked from jump cloning into Thera.

Survivors in the Mine shaft
For the next few weeks or months, joint player groups both in and outside of Thera would be tasked with finding a way to establish connection to the stranded group of players.

Raising the Stakes
Reconnection to k-space from Thera would depend primarily on the cooperation of players trapped inside to build and maintain the tech for a new jump-gate technology. A doomsday clock on Thera system destruction could also be introduced (independent or dependent of occupant behavior in Thera). If players fail to leave before doomsday, 30% of these Thera occupants would be biomassed instantly. The remaining survivors would likely never be able to reconnect to current known space in New Eden and would no longer have medical clone services from the sanctuary stations. When they die, the character is biomassed. Permadeath.

A grand experiment to study how players would band together in an 'under-the-dome' scenario. Also serve as an organic way of introducing player stargate and/or permadeath mechanics into Eve.

Experiment could also draw a lot of gaming press as people tune in each day for updates on the rescue or post-doomsday survivor scenario.

I'm not sure this would work. It kind of removes the sandbox element of the game to force a specific timeline or sequence of events.

Without having data to base this view on, my feeling is that

1. players outside Thera won't care one bit about reconnecting to players inside
2. players inside will get frustrated by being limited in their access to the game and will logoff and play on alts

There is no real reason why players that don't normally align with each other would suddenly do so just because Thera is cutoff.

My strong feeling is players wouldn't appreciate being used as lab rats, only to gain access back to the game they previously had access too, nor would they appreciate having their gameplay limited merely because they were in Thera. There is a huge inequity there compared to players that were outside Thera at the time of collapse and who can continue to just play as normal

There would need to be some very substantial new benefit available to them, to compensate for the inconvenience.

Can I get a facepalm emoji here?

Although an emoji doesn't really communicate the fail in this suggestion. This is more appropriate.

I'm okay with the idea of bringing players together. The EVE client has voice so independent players and groups have the tools to cooperate. I just think the consequence of permadeath is too extreme, and the timeline is a bit long. Players have matters to attend, and I think an event like this should only span a sitting, or repeat over several days in sessions of one sitting each.

What type of problem could you create that wouldn't be too easily solved?

This sounds like one of those team-building escape room exercises.

Yes who won´t have his 80 million skillpoint char put to tera and have a 30% risk of beeing biomased. Nice try.
