Hi people,

Wanted to ask some help, on what its the best fit for an orca for high-sec, to mine with drones and send boosts to an alt!

I did try to the math but I think it is wrong, I would only get in total of yield of 400 and something for the drones -.- can any help me out here ?

Thanks :D

The Orca is not a mining boat. She is a gank-magn errm mining foremen support ship that helps your buddies mine more ore for a minute.

Mine with the Porpoise instead.

and Porpoise is mining boat ? Hm..

Anyway, orca related, slap as much tank as u can in mids, as rigs use those for more drone mining amount, lows dcu II and bulkheads, highs see which stuff u wanna boost and thats it.

On drone front, use t2 mining drones, factions ones are abit to expensive last time i checked.

The only way to improve the mining drones on the Orca (and Porpoise) is to use Large (or medium for porpoise) mining drone augmentor rigs, 2 tech 2 and one tech 1. These rigs cost a lot of money, especially the tech 2 variant for each size.
Other thing that could help both ships use mining drones are Navigation computer to increase speed of drones.

After that, put as much command burst module in the high as you can, and then put everything else in tank, with DCU, shield resistance, bulkheads etc.

How would be better a Porpoise? I as less EHP, drones mine less and such. And from what I have seen, gankers on high-sec don't attack orcas, but other mining ships.

Thanks, I know they are a bit expensive, but are the best ones for Orcas, and 3-4 days it would be enough to get ISK to buy them, I just don't have to loose them eheh

Was thinking the same, and the speed of drones affect the time they would mine? If not I would not use them, want to be at 1km at most from the asteroid that I'm mining with the orca.

The porpoise is better in the sense that it cost next to nothing compared to a exhumer or orca, but can fit tank modules way more powerful that every mining barge, I fitted a X-large shield booster on mine and can use it for about 1 minute to give an example.
For gankers it will not be attractive enough at all compared to retriever, hulk, mackinaw etc, the porpoise is too cheap and too tanky at the same time.

For the speed drones modules, even when I mine asteroids less than 1 km from me, drones still make a move from their orbit to my ship, with their slow speed and frequent back and forth between you and the roids it does make a difference in the long term, especially when you will need a TON of cycles from your mining drones to fill up your gigantic ore hold on both the porpoise and orca.

Ty

The think is I will all ways have my alt with me, with a skiff or with a Hulk (depends if there are gankers or not in the system) and one them it will be park all ways on the orca.

The orca it will be more as a safe place to hold the ore while mining, at some point to boost my alt and friend that want to mine with me, and since I love to be a suport :P the think is the best for me its the orca in my opinion, but I'm not a expert :P thats why I have come here and ask :D

Well, both ships can use mining boosts modules and help mining with their bonused drones, it's mostly down to the price of them. So if you can afford to eventually lose an orca, go for it.

Or you and your friend can both fly a Porpoise and shield-rep each other all day long. The Porpoise is not only cheaper but you can freely move at 1400m/s with a mwd on.

Fly it on SiSi and see for yourself. Jeebus, I can't safe everyone.

The idea of testing on SISI is great but the comment on saving everyone what gives with that?
If responding to a simple request from a new player is such a chore then why do you bother?

OP
Looking at the base stats only the Orca is clearly superior as a support ship for mining operations.
3 command busrt modules instead of 2.
100% boost to mining drone yield as a role bonus versus 50% boost for the poporise.
50% boost to area of effect for command and mining forman burst modules.
And these just a few of the advantages to the Orca.

On the other side the Orca is listed between 800 and 850 million for the hull only in Jita while the porpoise is listed between 60 and 70 million. Only you can decide if the advantages of the Orca are worth the additional costs involved.
