Another crowd-funded single shard SC debacle? Or....

something more?

The description fits that of Eve almost to a T.

While a game that has you in and out of ships (WiS-like) seem exciting enough, it still lacks probability for having been tried before - especially in a single shard.

Thus I won't be on the "This is da Eve Killer™ " bandwagon until we see it. Usually there's a point where something seems great and then the "Oh no, it's ********" moment hits.

I'll keep an eye on this. Hopefully the ships don't look all first gen Caldari (Moas everywhere) that'll be a first strike.

Ah, some clarity:

Quote:

1. There may be a few npc's, in the form of market bots, but outside of that there are no npc or ai empires out in the world. At least none planned at this stage.

2. This game will also allow base building and such. This game will allow people to attack your stuff while you are logged off (and while you are online as well) but there will be some ways that you can protect yourself from this. These methods include things like Territory Units and possibly some security systems, or you can build in the safe zones which provide a substantial amount of protection. While the exact nature of all these mechanics is still being hammered out, but it is pretty safe to say that there will be several methods for providing an adequate level of security for your stuff. As to your character, that is safe when you log off, as well as everything in your inventory.

3. This is an online only game. As a single shard MMO, all players will play in the same world on the same server. I do remember seeing something mentioned somewhere about a possible ship building simulator mode, which would allow you to practice building things in a sort of simulated place, separate from the regular game world, but I'm not sure that will make it into the final release.

4. It is subscription based and is planned to be about $15 per month. There is also a planned method by which players can pay for their subscription using in-game money, but you will have to look that up. Look at the threads about DACs or look at EVE Online's PLEX model.

5. Based on what we have seen so far, I'd say it is a mix of both with some elements being drop and go, and other requiring processing and building.

6. While the exact specifics have yet to be fully announced, I believe they will work something like space engineers and you will have to place a proper number of thrusters in order to provide proper navigational ability.

Further discussion says it will always be subscription based, no F2P.

Interesting but as I say, if it's Moas all over the place, forget it. Also, if they bring in alien races that look like badgers or trout skins on human skeletons it's cheese and not worth the trouble.

(Thus much can be said for the art department and the effort that gets put in - something that CCP does well - I'd say the art of the game could stand on it's own even without the game)

OK for the record I'm not involved in this game (I'm too boring to be a game dev and I work in the crypto/augmented reality field anyway), but apparently my "hire NPCs to mine for you" idea is not unique.

I think I've seen that game before, right behind a 60 euro price tag and a horde of angry customers calling some Sean Murray...

It looks like someone tries to steal a customer base of EVE online, space engineers and SC by making in 2016 something what CCP is making since 2003, and other developers actively trying to find a niche. And all of this without f2p...

Comparable to a WoW clone coming in 2028 with subscription based model. Lol

You know, forget WiS I want crafting in EVE. Where I wave my hands and a battleship shows up.

As long as we don't have to "skill up" our crafting. You know what game I refer to. I still feel like setting things on fire when recalling memories of crafting.
