I was asked this question by a friend and I didn't know how to answer it, he has the holding corp for an old closed alliance but noticed that it brought back by another group, whom are not inactive, would it be possible to get back the alliance?

I think once an Alliance is closed its name is up for grabs. Nothing you can do.

I am a bit fuzzy on the details but isn't this the exact reason that BOB didn't get reformed? I seem to recall some goof up allowed a lapse in the alliance fee and the Alliance closed and some other group.. *Cough*goons*Cough* stole the name to keep it from them.

yeah it was the change in sov paying 500m a system, they didn't have the cash so it disbanded the alliance and someone instantly took the name when it happened

AFAIK, this follows the same rules as corporations - the tickers have to be unique, but the name can be repeated.

I'd just transfer the alliance/corp to some alt, throw a few bil in the wallet, and just laugh at them.
