A Medium Sized Hauler......maybe.

As suggested, would this be a reasonable idea?

What I mean is something that could maybe hold/ship 100-150k m3 depending on skills. We have medium stuff for everything else.

Atm, we have the small haulers and the blockade runners which are fine and fill their roles well. Then we have the huge ones that can do over 400k m3.

Surely there is room for something inbetween that is a compromise between the two? Just a thought.

What do you folks think? Silly idea or not.....even if has been proposed before. Was thinking about it and would like to throw it to the floor to be pushed around.

Can make whatever skill requirements for it as that is seen as fit.

O/.......Happy new year

Well, depending on what you're hauling the Orca is reasonably close to this. I've never actually fit my orca specifically for hauling (Tank fit every time), so not sure just how big it can get.

But assuming hauling a mix of ore, ships and goods, it's a pretty decent hauler on a reasonable budget.

The interesting thing perhaps, would be how you balance ease of ganking vs. hold capacity?
If you haul 100-150km3 of anything other than raw ore chances are you are going to be a very tempting target for a gank in something smaller than a freighter.

T1 and Blockade Runners in the 10-20,000 m^3

DST at 50-60,000 m^

Orca and Jump Freighter in the 100 - 350,000 m^3

Freighter 200,000 - 1 million+ m^3

It's pretty much covered from under 10,000 to over 1 million m^3, with no real gap.

Ok......yeah, noted.

I guess I'd like to mention about the possibility of something that can do say 100-150k m3 or 70-100k m3 that is a little more accessible for players (not new) that didn't need a capital hull like orca etc.

Obviously there would be pros and cons with it but I think it would be a good addition/option. Yes...you both make good points but i reckon if the devs got the requirements and restrictions right...would be cool.

An Orca fit for maximum cargo capacity with maximum skill can hold:
100,951.3 M3 in the main cargo hold
40,000 M3 in the fleet hangar
187,500 M3 in the ore hold
400,000 M3 in the Ship Maintenance Bay

A DST is 390,000 M3 so you can put one of those in the Ship maintenance Bay for another 62,500 M3 using the DST fleet hangar. You can get a bit more by playing games with cargo containers.

The Orca will warp in 10 seconds using 1 pulse of the MWD.
EHP for the fit below is 192,106 EHP. You can get a bit more by fitting a Caldari Navy large shield extender. I think a T2 will fit if you have the Shield Upgrades skill at level 5.

[Orca, *Simulated Orca]
Expanded Cargohold II
Expanded Cargohold II

500MN Microwarpdrive II
EM Ward Field II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Large F-S9 Regolith Compact Shield Extender

Large Cargohold Optimization II
Large Cargohold Optimization II
Large Cargohold Optimization I

I don't suggest that you should fit an Orca this way but you could!

Edit: the Orca is not a particularly high skill ship - a new character can train to fly one in about 3 weeks and most of that is the mining foreman skill.

The Orca is not a capital ship hull. I has only large rig size and is no longer listed under capital industrial ships but under industrial command ships.

Remove standings and insurance.

^ This. I was all for this idea a few years ago and agree there was a gap, but with the addition of the Orca and Bowhead I think the mid range gap has been filled pretty well.
