I'm very VERY new to EVE (2 days), so bear with me.

I recently started the exploration career path, and the guy wants me to get some data from a data site.

As of right now, I can identify data sites and relic sites and stuff, but when I long-click on the the x in the solar system map, the warp option is blacked out and I can't warp to it

These sites would be ridiculously difficult to travel to at sub-warp speed, so,

Also thanks to anyone who answers

You have the map and the scanner probe window. You move your probes around on the map (and make the range of scanning bigger and smaller) until the site on the probe window no longer has a percentage but instead has a >>>> next to it.

Right click on the site in the probe window and click "warp to location" or something like that.

You've probably just identified the general area of the site... you have to pinpoint it by narrowing your scan range around that hit.

You need a 100% result. Until you get to that strength, the signal locations on the map are approximations. Surround the site with probes, reduce range and zoom in, repeat until you get 100%.

Maxim 6. If violence wasn’t your last resort, you failed to resort to enough of it.

The scanning-probe minigame takes a bit of explanation, and it's not really given by the mission agent. Try pressing F12, tabbing to "Tutorial Videos", opening up the "Exploration" dropdown, and watching the video "Scanning (2 of 3)" - or, if you prefer text, give https://www.thealphasguide.com/reference/scanning/ a skim.

The data, relic, and gas sites are hidden locations that you can't just warp to. First you must use the exploration probes to get the exact location in space with 100% accuracy, and then you can warp to the location. That's what the agent is trying to teach you.

Learning to be proficient at scanning just takes time and practice.

A bonused ship will help (your racial T1 ship is the Probe).

Training Astrometric skills, or even a couple of cheap Prospector implants (like AP-606 or AR-806) help too.
