Skins should give small bonuses

If I remember correctly the cane with flames on it made dr House go faster. Skins should give small (no more than 5%) bonuses depending on their color - i.e. a black skin makes you harder to target. bright yellow skin gives you 5% em/therm resistance etc. Flames skin gives you 5% speed bonus

Nope. Pay to win is antithetical to the game. Period.

Nope.

Cosmetics only, any attribute enhancing stuff should not be available in the NEX cash store.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

None of those are pay to win.

Nope. Unless they're free skins accessible to everyone but require skills to be applied to a ship.

Example.
"Battlehardened" (permanent) skin
(Would apply damage effects, scuffs, burns, chinks, broken bits or missing panels.) Applies a 1.1% damage bonus at a 5%-10% penalty like a rig penalty to shield or armor depending on ship. Could be applicable to all ships and every player in the game would already have this skin. But it requires max skills on a ship to use so a level 5 certificate or 4 If they wanted to be more generous.
Requires no money and is unlocked by leveling up a range of skills to show "mastery" of a ship and you are rewarded with a cool damages ship that does a little bit more damage at the cost of hp from your visually destroyed ship. As if your ship was worn and has seen many battles and was optimized to fight effiecently with less health. If you dont have the skills it would simple be grayed out and instead of buy now or view market details it would redirect you to your skills sheet and your certificates page for that ship.

That way there's no way for someone to just pay real money and have instant advantages and it would have tradeoffs like any other rig but would be primarily visual. Alternatively you could reduce it further. 1.05 or something and a 2.5% penalty but really there's no point to not just have it be purely visual with no stat effects and be a General mastery skin so you can identify someone who is highly trained in a given ship.
But if it were to have stays that would be the only fair way to balance it by making it act as a removable visual rig as far as stats go.

5% for real world money is out of the question.

Good idea. Very minor benefits to having a special ship (a bit more cargo, a tiny bit faster, etc.) would be great. Maybe it would be easier to create a standard and nondestructible rig in a skinned ship, to simulate its relative difference from standard vessels.

I am personally largely disinterested in game balance. I am sorry but I couldn't give a flying ****. I am about immersion. A ship with a certain look should have certain qualities. I don't even care much if its a mix of benefits and drawbacks, as long as what I see has meaning. We aren't playing transformers the space game for fucks sake, CCP should be better than this whole world of skin-deep superficiality we have to survive in every day.

I like the above idea that these beneficial skins would have to be unlocked in some sort of formal process, but that only adds to the granularity and meaning of skins. So goddamn, yes. I am in favor. Upvoted.

As I recall, part of the lore around the "cold iron" skins dropped by Blood Raiders in the most recent Crimson Harvest was that they had stealth characteristics - reducing signature radius. They certainly didn't add any visual appeal to ships!

I think skins that grant a small bonus would be great as long as they are only available in-game - loot drops, exploration sites, even loyalty point stores are OK but, I agree with others that NES should be cosmetic only.

Edit: I also don't think skins that grant bonuses should be permanent. 30 day only!

You should fly a Cold Iron'ed ship in a darker system. They become really hard to to distinguish from the dark backgrounds.

@Daugar Draaken
Like painting red racing stripes on your Nissan Micra make it keep up in the highways with a BMW M5 at the BMW's full speed? Don't make yourself look more like a fool than you already are. Changing the color of your ship does not change anything on the ship's systems. Expecting that a changed color changes ship systems is beyond dumb.

As for the original post and its follow up: Neither PLEX nor SI are pay to win because you gain no bonuses to your ships that no one else can gain as well without having to pay actual money for these bonuses. The only thing PLEX and SI do is facilitating the access to the game itself as well as accelerating the access to certain objects t play with, they do not add more bonuses to ships like this suggestion would do.

Nothing you can buy for RL money should ever do that.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

One of the contributing ideas to the summer of rage was one like this.

Not only no. But, **** no!

5% difference is ALOT in Eve and you should know about it. And i dont want to use an ugly skin color because is a "must" to have.

Nope.
