How irritating is it to have to log out then back in, just to switch to an alt? You're right, its mildly irritating.

Please, please give us a Return to character selection screen button.

Why recode the whole game? Wouldn't it just be a matter of getting the client to reset and send a new auth token for the same account?

And ditch the bloody launcher at the same time. Any important info can be on the character login screen like it used to be.

Ah, I dont know, That question would have to be answered by CCP. I only know they make it sound the way I wrote it.

I seem to recall a thread about this issue years ago where a dev said it would be too much work due to the way the game has been coded.

been asked for years, devs have posted as stated already, that they need to do a recode of the client, and that the cost in dev time to do that, to save you 5 second sis not worth it. So atm, it snot happening. But you never know

Well, there are records of CCP Falcon outright lying to the player base in the past, so, I mean, we can dig up the direct dev quotes on this (other devs, not Falcon) but they can be lies. Unfortunately, we can only (re)spew what they say.

press the stop button in the launcher. it becomes a play button. press that. you get character selection screen.

Does this mean the DEVs will never do it? No. They are aware of it.
As far as anyone is aware, it is tangled up in the legacy code of the game. And the DEVs have stated in a CSM discussion (some time ago) that it would take "5 programmers 6 months of work to save players 10 seconds."

It will get done eventually as it is something they have wanted to do for awhile. But we will have to wait until they get around to re-writing that (and related) part of the code... which they are doing slowly, but surely.

Except for the fact it was already in the game, and they "re-coded" the game to remove it. So that logic doesn't apply here.
