Is selling my character worthwhile?

I used EveAppraiser to value my character out of curiosity. The value was around 540 Million ISK. Now that I have valued the character I am tempted to sell it and use the cash to start again as 540M could help a lot!! But is it worthwhile with regards to training and tutorial etc? What does the forum think I should do, carry on as is or sell up and start again?

Maybe not your actual situation but a friend of mine sold his main. He was also tempted by the billions he would make from that but he deeply regrets the decision. He sold his reputation, his history and some nostalgic memories.

I'm not a character trader so it's hard for me to say what's good or not. I think it takes 2 PLEX or $20 to initiate a transfer.. so your character needs to be worth a transfer at least. The Skill Extractor/Injector market has also really changed how character sales work. Why not just drain your character of all of it's SP and start a new toon? Also I think the seller is the one who usually does the transfer payment? (sorry if I'm wrong!)

You can just skip all the tutorial if you want and just undock with a big wallet. Might be cheaper for you to buy a PLEX and sell it. Make sure you redeem it while docked in Jita (or wherever you wanna sell it) and sell it there. I bought a PLEX the other day for 1.06b ISK

@ a value of 540M it's not worth selling, the transfer costs alone are 4x that.

If isk is your goal strip the character of any SP that is surplus to requirement with extractors and sell it.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I should perhaps point out that I am Alpha in case this changes the responses.

The alpha clone state has changed the very fundamentals of the game. The tool you used to value your character was probably made before Skill Extractors/Injectors were a thing.

I'd take the route of buying a PLEX for yourself if you're tempted by the easy money. Smile $20 in ISK will buy you tons and tons of alpha ships. You'll get a lot of miles out of that.

Character transfer cost is $20 or 2 plex. 2 plex is worth ~2bil ISK. You would make -1.5bil ISK selling your character for 500mil.

Nobody is paying 540 million for a 3 week old alpha character, nor buying any other character with under 2 million skillpoints.

I'd need to give you 540 million isk, and spend 2 billion isk on the transfer, and be stuck with your name & face, and hope you trained useful skills, to get to have a character with 1 million SP.

Or I could make my own alpha. Buy 4 skill injectors for my 2.5 billion isk. And now I've got a character with the name & face I want, and with 2.4 million SP allocated exactly as I want them.

If he managed to sell it, which he almost certainly wouldn't.

A plex costs less than the character transfer and is worth more than your character, just sayin....

or better yet buy a month or two of omega. the extra training speed and no restrictions is probably worth more than either for a new pilot. Having a billion isk but no SP or game experience isn't worth anything. There are plenty of isk making opportunities for new players that should give you enough income to do new player things.

Things to consider:

1. When CCP added the skill extractors / skill injectors to the game, characters started being valued in terms of skill points, rather than their specialization or how well put-together their skills were.

Specifically because the Character Bazaar is like Jita: there are a lot of character-resellers, who don't care about what you've done with the character, they just want to extract your points and sell them for profit. t

So, first, they'll try to get your character for less than what YOU could gain by extracting your points yourself and selling them. They're only interested in buying characters that they can extract. You're probably not going to make a great deal on the Character Bazaar.

2. There's no way to speed up skill training without paying thousands of dollars. 20 million points per year is kinda set in stone, and a year of Omega is $135, so that's the cheapest possible that you can pay for 20 million. If you get rid of the skills, you'll be stuck at newbie level again, unable to fly the bigger ships, the cool ships, or do whatever you may want to do, because you don't have the skills.

3. If you want cash, it's somewhat simple to pretend that you have 2 subscriptions. One actual subscription, and the second you just buy 1 plex every month and convert it to 1 billion ISK in-game. You're "making" 1 billion per month, you'll be at 12 billion ISK by the time your character can even fly the bigger or nicer ships that may cost in the 50-100 million range. Again, because you're blocked by skills that you haven't trained yet.

4. Don't build a "perfect" character, this game will frustrate you if you try to do that. You spend a year training skills under the perfect plan, and then you click the wrong button and there goes your standings. Or join the wrong corp and nobody wants to hire you. Or say "hello" and some jerk puts a bounty on your head for it. 1 year, ruined. Instead of this, your characters are like your ships, tools to be used so you achieve fun, and it's ok if they're not perfect. Slightly used and chipped tools are the best tools, cause you know they've been reliable thus far.

5. On the other hand, people do end up being OCD about some aspect of their character and decide to delete or recoup the skillpoints. It's always at a loss, but it's YOUR character, do what you will. I can tell you that personally I've extracted the skills from some high-SP characters, because I kinda like the newbie game. But that keeps me somewhat solo; people will be suspicious when I try to join corps with several billion in the wallet, knowledge of the game, and no skills / no ability to do much besides pea-shooter T1 frigates. It doesn't make sense. I haven't hit the regret phase yet, but I probably will; I'm not really looking forward to waiting 6 months for support skills to train, I can tell you that.

Don't sell your pilot, you might regret it one day later. 540 Million ISK is not that much in EVE.

I once scanned down a lost gecko (60Mil. just the drone) in highsec just to find the remains of a marauder and a lone pirate ship nearby. Had to switch to a Vexor to kill that one rat, but the modules that dropped from the marauder wreck were hundrets of millions worth in ISK. The misson runner must have logged of in rage or DCed and I got dank ISK just for beeing in the right place at the right time.

Or look at this (you can use a destroyer instead of a noctis and it is a bit less dependet on luck): https://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/5erbu8/they_gave_me_a_noctis_and_said_id_be_able_to_pay/

It's been said already but here's the short(er) version :

Your few week old Alpha clone is worth exactly squat. Who ever told you it was worth half a billion was lying. Half a billion is also almost no money. I realize 500 Mil sounds like a lot but given a bit of experience you'll wipe your arse with 500 Mil.

Keep training and don't pay attention to quick fix ideas.
