sorry I am german ...

I want to criticizing the introduction to the game ...

I am restarting an 8 years old noob account. 8 years ago I tryed to get in the game, try the story, the mechanics ... it was not succsessfull

Now today I played through the tutotial missions .... but they are called "opportunities" ... the opportunities map ... and so on. But I was able to understand, that these are the TUTORIALS! Thanks for that TOUTORIAL MISSIONS ! Why dont call it toutorial? (would be easly understandable within one second ... but no ....)

But in the first so called "Agent Mission" I had to deal with mining drones whitch costs me per kill 5 minutes minimum! but the "quest description" dont says "kill them at the mining station, otherwise they will respawn unlimet... and that will kill you ...
So I died and tryed to upgrate my "starters ship" with an additional railgun. for that I removed the mining unit and installed the new railgun I purchased at the station. than I started again to try the mission ...
unfortunaltity the new railgun had no Funktion, because ( friendly It was communicated INFIGHT!) the gun was out of charges!... the game never told me before, that this gun will do nothing in the next fight wihout anx charges! thanks!

I was able to manage the mission! and without any helping description, I assumed that I need to rescue the 4 Scientists via "cargo transfere"! And without any logical in game description I actually was able to try so long that I was able to understand that I have to but them from my !CARGO! into the !CARCO! of the mining-station ... omg!

but best thing was to let me fight against mining droids far from the mining station and let respawn the complete drone scuad without any information, that I have to kill them next to the mining station! yea thanks!

But I was able to manage that too. because after more than 3 hours I treied the direct flight to the mining station (where I put the scintistes in the cargo) and I tried to staying next to the station while killing another 5 respawned mining drones ... THANKS GAME ... that works

But I didnt know, the best will come...

Agent Mission 2: "The Score"
I used the acceleration gate "the score" with my !NOOB SHIP! and was killed within seconds while trying the mission.
There was absolutly no information visible, that my ship isCOMPLETLY UNDEPOWERED and WITHOUT ANY CHANCE for this mission ... nothing ,,, no sign at the enemys that this will end in an disaster .... thanks again for this stupid dead!

ok
I thougt the only way is a new ship! After that horrible bashing by npc enemies in agent-mission-two, I checked the ship tree in the station and discovered that the frigates are available for me. I checked the marked and saw ther is a frigate only 6 jumps far for under 400k.
I bought the "Griffin" and used the auto pilot to get to the station.

...

Yea I got that new frigate "Griffin"

...

What tha f... I am not able to by parts (weappons, shields ...) because they much too expensive ....

....

So far ... my first 6 or seven hours in EVE ...

Thanks

Have fun to blame me ...

Suggestions for beginners:

1. Call the tutorial missions "Tutorial missions"
2. Highlight the "to get clicked" buttons in the tutorial (possibly with a glow or flashing arrow ... (sometimes too many options on the whole screen to find the ONE!)
3. only information for newborns who need it (not the whole market, not all option sums) ... or mark not usable things in red or gray (anything that can not be used for newborns ...)
4. Deadly opponents / strong opponents with a shield, a skull, or a glow or in red or something
5. Enter in the first missions of the Jurnal ("kill opponents next to station", "you found the VIP, put them in your cargo", "use freight function to transfer VIPs between ships and stations", "you Need ship class xx and guns / missiles xx ... shilds class xxx to be succsessfull ")
6. Mark modules without functions (railgun without charges) in red, so it is clear there is a problem or module is not ok

I have many problems to understand which ships I can update with which wapons, shilds, systems and so on. Even if I click on the slots of the ship: "high slot" it does not show me which weapon it really needs and what the estimated costs are ...

For information: My colleague started today with me to play EVE, and he went to a mission where he had to disable a shield generator ... at first he could not find his target... and after he found it he had a problem with warp (later discovered via google, that there is an enemy wich mayby cause this problems) ... I am not shure how it ends ...

We both asume that the game is extremely complicated ...

1. The opportunities that you are doing are NOT the tutorial. They are an acheivement system.

2. Forget playing on the 8 yearold account for now. Create a brand new free Alpha account and you will get a brand new tutorial that CCP has just created. Its not perfect, but its alot better than any of the old tutorials that you will find on your old account.

Once you have got a feel for the game with the new tutorial (thats only available on accounts created since the last release), you can then go back and use your 8 year old character. Or stick with the new character you created. Or play both, its up to you.

^^^ this

And do stay with it. Sounds similar to my start at EvE. :)

It will soon begin to make more sense.

Like has already been stated the new tutorials are only available to new accounts. Not new characters, but new accounts which means you'll have to start a new free trial account and play alpha for a bit to get through the new tutorials and then go back to your 8 year old account.

When I started playing this game I had a cousin that played the game. He got me into this game and I had him on ventrillo every night to talk me through stuff and answer my questions. Without him ( or some other vet or vets ) to answer questions for me I probably would not have lasted long in this game. The game is very deep and if you are trying to go it alone my guess is that you won't make it long.

The key to this game is the friends that you make. It's not so much how you play but who you play with. Regardless of if you want to try the new tutorials or not I think more importantly is make friends and get in several chat channels with vets to answer your questions real time.

Eve is a true MMO and without friends this game is very tough and not so much fun. I can not recommend enough that you start making friends ( or enemies ) in game and probably lots of both.

That is completely incorrect, it was only the case for the first week or so of ascension. Since then, every new character gets the NPE.

The OP is on an 8 year old character, and simply needs to make a new toon on that account to get the NPE.

If you start a new character and complete the first tutorial, you will want to accept the invitation to visit the Career Agents (or press F12 to bring up the menu for them). These are usually a couple of systems away from where you start the game.

My advice would be to read the mission text carefully. It's all too easy to rush, and discover that you have made a wrong assumption. The Career Agent missions - certainly as they begin - give you the equipment and ships you need for each mission, or as a reward, for the next mission. This gives you a clue to the nature of the mission.

A good example is your mistake with the Civilian weapons provided on the new player corvette given to you every time you dock without a ship. The weapons on this don't need ammunition. But in the Military career agent mission sequence, you get given a proper weapon (not civilian) and ammunition - providing the clue that maybe this better gun should be loaded with the ammunition.

EvE encourages you to think for yourself, rather than signpost every little thing. It's not very intuitive either, so never assume, always check - and if your conclusion proves to be wrong and you die in a fire, learn from the experience.

I can't give you any tutorial advice, but I can say that your early frustrations seem to be a fundamental part of the game. This is not a bad thing... Eve is a rough ride when you're new and it continues to be a rough ride for the duration. It's always a challenge and it's worth every agonizing minute.

Don't worry, it happens to the best of us.

The actual tutorial missions are only available on new accounts, so if you dug up an account from 8 years ago, you wouldn't get them. But they won't tell you much about the game anyway beyond "click to make it go", "click to make it stop" and "click to fire zeh laz0r". They are mostly just a flashy, fully voiced introduction of sorts. What they would do, however, is refer you to the career agents (as do the opportunities at some point).

If you had really followed the opportunities, Aura would have at some point suggested you go and talk to the career agents if I remember correctly. Those in turn give you a set of missions easily doable in a noobship, and these missions will explain a few of the core game mechanics, yield ISK, faction standing, modules, skills and best of all quite a few proper frigates as well as a destroyer, which then is more than capable of running level one missions (assuming it's fitted at all). And if you manage to blow them all up before you manage to make enough ISK to buy new ones, just head to the next career agent system and do them all over again. There are three of those systems for every faction, and you can use them all, which will give you a wide variety of ships to loose in hilarious fashion.

The career agents for caldari are located in Akianinavas, Jouvulen and Uitra, but if you feel like it, you can run other factions career missions. You can find the list here: http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Tutorials_-_Opportunities_and_Career_Agents_in_EVE_Online#Career_Agents_and_Systems

You can do the missions together to a degree. If you fleet up with your buddy, you can warp to each other and help with the mission, however, if you both take the same mission you still have to run it twice.

And just in case: To form a fleet, right click a character in chat or in your contact list -> Form Fleet. You will get a new window listing all your fleet members. You can right click -> add to watchlist to see their hitpoints, you can right click -> warp to fleet member to warp to wherever they are, assuming they are undocked and in the same system and as a squad/wing/fleet commander you can also right click an object in space and warp your whole squad/wing/fleet there.

If you fleet you two can definitely both do the mission together. You asked upon turning in the completed mission if you want to share rewards and you will share: isk, LP, and standings.

What you do not get is the ability to read along with the mission text or any of the agent interactions. Also the sharing of the rewards is not guaranteed. You have to choose to share with your friend.

You can use mission reports to share a link with your friend as to which mission your are on and give him an idea of what you are going to be up against.

Doing missions together can be a lot more fun than doing them alone. Learn to mark targets and focus fire on the same NPCs. Together you will be able to take on much harder missions than either of you could do solo. This experience can help carry over to running burner missions together later on when you are running level 4 missions.
