Do the ships we fly contain large crews of non-capsulers?

Some of the people in my corp talk about the ships we fly around containing massive crews of hundreds. I am wondering what some of the back story is. When I'm mining in my covetor, is there a work crew manning its internal ore-grading assembly lines and pre-processing equipment and keeping the engines maintained? Why would they enlist in such a dangerous operation and work for me since I certainly don't pay them anything?

Is there some dev blog or external site that talks about this?

Here is a duplicate of the old wiki entry copied over to Backstage. Also, there are Chronicle references such as in Forsaken Ruins. There may be more current data, but I am not yet aware of it.

You should also listen to these chronicles which together really shows how.. indifferent Capsuleer's are regarding their crew and what happens to them.

Sanxing for example does a lot of crew-related RP. A lot relative to RP corps whose members are mostly more typical capsuleers, anyway.

Or write a story!
