We need something to counter players booting up their second, third, fourth account and just sitting it in some system cloaked to **** off the locals, this is not a post about players who use covert ops ships to actively gather intel on locals, but rather those that AFK 90% of the time, and while being inactive unaware of their game they are causing disturbance to others in essence their performing a form of greifing on a local population with no way for that local population to counter it.

So here is the idea, a new Surveillance deploy-able object about the site of a mobile depo with similar mechanics in the way it gets anchored in space, it would appear in our overview so that anyone coming into the system would instantly see it and know its their, this new Surveillance system would do two jobs, the first is that it would cause all cloaked ships in the system to register as cosmic signatures in pilots probe window, this would be a passive ability, these signatures could then be scanned down by anyone with a probe launcher and probes, but it should require high skills so an alpha could not lock down a cloaked ship, but some one with high skills in scanning could.

The second thing this new device could do would be an active function, pilots blue to the device or in it's corp would be able to warp to it and active it, on activation the device would signal the system that it's about to fire an Anti Cloaking wave, this would give legitimate and actually watching/active cloaked players a chance to avoid it, a timer would start and once the timer runs out the device would consume some fuel and de-cloak every ship in system that's currently cloaked and in space, if a ship is hit with this de-cloak wave while its cloak is active it's cloaking module would be put on a longer cool down than normal giving the locals a chance to search for him.

An Active scout who is actively gathering intel in a system could see the wave warning, de-active his own cloack before it hits and then when the wave has passed re-active his cloak, this function is important because gathering intel with a cloaked ship is a viable and useful game play mechanic, but sitting in a system for 24 hours cloaked while your sleeping is not, at least I think not.

We also need something to counter the players who don't even pay attention to the top few threads of the forum and post a redundant topic that has a sticky because it is so redundant.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

AFK Cloaking thread #36,987,065,998,142

Edit: Here's the thing. No one reads these anymore. The topic has been discussed so much, that as soon as it's apparent that the thread is about AFK cloaking, we stop reading. I literally stopped reading on the first sentence.

Ralph be along to post the rest of the thread in a minute and then it will be locked.

I think they are more than aware of the disruption they're causing. Otherwise, what's the point? If I was in a nullsec corp with not-so-friendly neighbors, I would make it a point to sneak my way to their systems and wreak havok by not doing anything but sit silently.

Why are you not posting in the sticky thread?

How about you inject reading comprehension into your skill queue.

A vulnerable structure that can uncloak people? I like it. Combined with a nerf to the perfect intel of local you might be on to something to inject more play and counter play into nullsec.

Of course there is a sticky thread above where this idea belongs. Feel free to post it there although that thread is a bit of a mess.

AFK cloakers:

Can't move, can't target, can't shoot and nobody is at the controls. Yet somehow they can shut down a system for days at a time.
