I used to do a lot of moon mining.

I learned one thing that I found more important to me than anything else: The profit I made was much more due to the reacting than to the mining. In fact, often the costs of the raw moon goo to be used for secondary and then advanced was impacting my bottom line by maybe 10%. Once I figured out how much time I was wasting surveying and hauling and combining into one reacting system, I stopped caring if the moons even had resources. I would just buy freighters full of raw goo, react it in one system, and then haul back to jita and sell for my huge profits - or make t2 components.

I made over a trillion isk in a few years from moon goo, and I never had any moons that anything better than mediocre crap. The real money is in the reacting.

I like this response....I've read most of the thread here on the moon mining subject and find it all very interesting. I apologize if this has been mentioned already ahead of time, but why is moon mining not allowed anywhere that's not policed by Concord? I may have missed the backstory or reasoning, and if so, my fault. If not, CCP should at least provide a very solid, convincing reason for the restriction instead of just, "No...you can't mine moons there". At least provide some backstory. No?

as red pointed out that with alliances being able to join faction warfare that would be the perfect time for ccp to open up the .4 system moons to moon mining. why the hell not it will change things. ccp should set it up so that only alliances/corps in faction warfare can hold and mine moons in .4 systems. that would make things very interesting. and there would still be power plays and fighting for these resources.

Ok, tech holding alliances will make an FW alt alliance. They'll defend the POS timer with their normal fleet, and you still won't be happy. Tech moons are to geographically concentrated and too individually valuable for small(ish) groups to have any chance at holding one.

Prior to the Tech bottleneck, the R64s are geographically dispersed and numerous enough that their prices stayed low enough to allow small groups to take a few as they grew. R64s would have fixed by Alchemy, but no, CCP has to put two changes in anytine they change something (even if the tech bottleneck was forewarned)
