Dammit, the OP made me like a Mr Epeen post.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Heh...good thing the new offer my Alpha alt received today is only good for a month, I imagine this guy would go ballistic if alphas could get Omega status for $3/month for more than one month.

I get how marketing works Epeen as I have worked directly with that department for years on the finance side of my company. You try to get someone to start using your product and then start paying for it. You get them "hooked" through incentives which is what this is, but when offering this for a whole year that term makes no sense as a "hook". Eve is a month-month game. You want to get them playing and then start paying full price as soon as possible, so a couple months offer would be expected.

The likely reason that this long term offer is being presented is simply for a short term influx of cash at the expense of long term cash gained (a valid tactic yes), but it is a short-term tactic only used to boost short-term performance. If you wanted a big short term cash influx, you would probably get more offering it to Omegas than Alphas.

You apparently don't get how marketing works. You give an incentive for one month, they can quit after a month. You give an incentive and lock them in for a year, you get a year's worth of revenue, guaranteed. It also ensures that they log in on and off for a year, which increases the chance that they find a decent group to fly with and keep playing after the year is over.

And after all that SP if they do decide to stay they'll most likely remain Omega and start paying the non-teaser rate.

So nobody is gonna acknowledge that this has been going on even before Alpha accounts? You all gonna just gonna exchange 'you dawg, do you even market?' -- "NO U!" like a buncha.. sigh.

What am I talking about:

If you go to the Eve site (You must be logged in on an Alpha account or not logged in at all) you will see that CCP is offering a deal for Alphas ONLY to sub with a very good deal.

https://secure.eveonline.com/upgrade/

Alphas can sub for the whole year at only $8.33/mo yet when I logged in to try to renew my sub on my accounts which have been the equivalent of an Omega for years, I do not get the same deal.

Normally I do not care about how CCP prices skins, plex, etc. since I just pay for my accounts, but come on. It seems the ONLY way a player who has been playing for years can get this deal is if they never actually subbed and just paid in plex.

I would also not really care if it was a month or two max, but when an Alpha can sub for $30+ less than me per account, that just does not feel right.

Can we get a Dev or someone to clarify what is going on here? Is this just a temp thing or is there something we are missing here?

Before returning to EVE as an Alpha Clone member (will Sub after the Holidays, & Credit Cards are paid down), I used to get promotional offers to return to EVE at a Discounted Rate for the First Payment all the time. Basic Econ-101, and marketing.

CCP is doing a lot for their loyal fan base. 3 years ago or so they announced they will create a lot of 'stuff'' to reward loyal customers. I am sure that is just around the corner.

Yeah. No matter how long the shower, I still feel dirty after doing that. Oops

Twisted

@OP: Business offer incentives all the time to bring in new customers. This is part of business. If you're mad at CCP for doing this, you must get mad at your cable company, ISP, credit card company, and many other places that do this. Do you also feel the need to walk into your bank and yell at them for offering incentives to new customers that you don't get?

Pretty much this. When my trial was up I was offered a 6 month sub and a Plex for less than the price of a standard 6 month sub. Took advantage, and now I'm looking to be a regular Joe paying for a sub until I can make enough isk every month to just plex like all the cool kids.
