Approaching wrecks with double clicking and Aura response

When I approach a wreck with double clicking in the overview, I get the 'you need to be in range to execute this function' message spoken by the new Aura. This (annoying) feature has been added in the latest update, however its getting on my nerves by now. Is there a way we can make Aura shut up besides turning audio off entirely ?

You could try right click, "approach"? Big smile

Is there not a slider for Voice in the audio options?

Is the most awful thing ever added to Aura. It does it for drones and fighters and I'm getting utterly spammed with it. If Aura were a player she'd be banned for excessive spamming of players.

Also please don't tell me to turn Aura off or turn the volume down. I'm legally blind and rely on Aura voice prompts as well as other tools/screen readers to read the screen to me. Having Aura constantly spam this 1 message at me has made Eve suddenly very problematic. I've already sent support tickets requesting this be removed. Please show your support in getting this message removed from game!

And if you really think that turning Aura off is a good plan, please turn your monitor off and play Eve that way. Then we'll both have an even playing field for some good 1v1 pvp. :-)

People have been successfully playing EVE for over a decade without sound. Just an FYI.

Yep! And I've been successfully playing Eve without a Monitor for several years too. Don't ask me to go without sound and I won't ask you to go without a monitor :-)

How exactly do you play then? Because, if I recall correctly, Aura is not exactly specific with her directions. Certainly not enough to enable a completely blind person to play EVE without any third-party assistance.

That would send this Eve discussion on a wild tangent, so let me help you get started:

^ this...
slider UI speech sound to 0...
Did the same, old Aura voice was better...
Maybe if they just would tweak the sound a bit,
turn the pitch a little down and let the voice samples run a tad slower....

Honestly I want voice samples to go faster. :-)

Again stop suggesting to turn the speech off. Unless you want me to suggest that you to turn your monitor off.. It isn't a solution.

Yes, it is a solution...
I wonder why you don't want us to mute the speech... Dev-alt? Related to voice actress? Or just a stupid troll...
And if you don't like what you're reading then you should turn your monitor off...

This thread has been butchered clean and unlocked, as it deals with a valid concern.

Several people have already either permanently or temporarily lost their forum posting privileges for being abusive and derogatory in this thread.

Don't be that guy.

As for the question and concern, at this point in time we can't really give and answer on this, given that most of the Dev team are away on Holiday vacation, but I'll bring the concern to the attention of the team working on Aura.

If anyone else feels the need to throw insults around in this thread, be aware that I'll happily hang the battered remains of your forum posting privileges on my Christmas tree as a decoration.

Keep it civil, I don't wanna have to clean this thread again.

Dude, kudos to you for learning to play Eve blind. I couldn't imagine playing without being able to see the many little spreadsheets that make up the game. And if you ever want 1v1 PvP message me and I will meet you somewhere in a poorly fit frigate, far from sober and giving zero fucks.

That being said, the aura thing is annoying. I know if I'm too far away when the can doesn't open. Please take that out.

Yeah....the voice addition is annoying and unnecessary. Also, not entirely happy about the 5-10 second wait you now have to comply with when you dock-up, change ship and want to quickly undock again, got to wait till the ship comes to rest in the circle. That's new too with a rather lame explanation about fluid changing issues.

In both of these cases there didn't seem to be anything wrong with the situation, as was, before the patch and appear to be cases of fixing things that were not broken or meddling. Or was there a legit reason for the new undocking time wait like it was messing with a process or script etc. or causing programing problems?

If not, then I rather liked the fast docking/change ship and undocking process that was before. Obviously not a huge deal...just mentioning.

I think Aura could say "approaching" instead of the distance comment.

I like my player units to be responsive? Just adding my vote here. I think there could be a voice pack that has different voice actors repeating your commands. Games like Starcraft have unit chatter if you simply touch them

Somebody_Call_For_An_Exterminator.3gp

Warships has a series of bells if you change speed or rudder. Something like that.

for her voice pattern and phrasing which seemed to have
inspired the CCP producer of this modification.

I need to be within range to execute this function? Is that why my ship is burning/warping there now? Oh hey, I'm in range and executing the function with no additional input!

That particular voice clip is approaching "the gong" in annoyance level. I could see how new players could be confused by their ship moving to a container before opening it, but once someone learns how the process works, the voice becomes redundant and annoying. Please check the situations where that clip is played and narrow it down to only operations that fail when not in range, rather than things like opening a wreck that automatically approach the target and proceed normally.

Try to use a warp scrambler or stasis webifier when out of range? It's not going to work so the error sound is justified. It could still be very annoying for those of us who watch our modules, but at least it's meaningful.
Try to open a can from 5km away? The ship will just approach it and open the can when it's in range, so a message that sounds like an error is confusing and out of place.

they cna;t change it back. They could not get the same actress form 2003 to redo all the voice work, and it would be confusing to new players to have two different voices, so its easier to redo the whole thing.
