Idea is that when you open fitting simulation there would be history of last 5 or so closed fittings (those that are gone when you load new or close the simulation).

That way one can simulate something and close the simulation to fit his active ship and then continue the old simulation where it was left at.

Currently to do the same one needs to save or share the fit (make link) and use that to recover the previous simulation.

As this would be just implemented on client side, it should add any overhead to server or rest of the game.

Look, you found your own solution already.

Or you could use one of the more advanced third party tools.

Initially the simulate button toggled between simulation mode and fitting mode. Simulation mode remember it's internal state and you could toggle between these modes without any effect. As this was bit unintuitive the button was changed to open current fit in simulation mode and thus it started to purge the state of simulation.

The proposal would in a away return this removed feature, while still keeping the simulation button as it's now.

As stated this missing feature isn't as important as it can be worked around, but it would add to usability of the feature.

I personally use both PyFa and fitting simulation to fit and design my ships and structures.
