Johnny Cash doing an achingly intimate cover of 'If You Could Read My Mind"

The sweet painful gospel that hums in the background gives the gravitas that is appropriate here.. A beautiful fractured voice whispering truth from the edge of the abyss.

Special issue: Manfred Mann covers.

First take, different by just a pea:

This was the original:

Tommy Roe - Sweet pea (1966)

Then Manfred Mann took it over and produced this instrumental classic:

Manfred Mann - Sweet pea (1967)

Not too hard to improve a bublegum hit, right? But, how about obliterating Bruce Springsteen?

First you take this original:

Bruce Springsteen - Blinded by the light (1973)

Then add to it a dose of Manfred Mann and you'll get this masterpiece:

Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Blinded by the light (1976)

Luckily The Boss has got many of his own to prove himself.

Roses are red / Violets are blue / I am an Alpha / And so it's you

Ah, if only we could open that door... *sighs*

Amii Stewart - Knock on wood (1979)

Q: Should we be worried? A: Nope. (...) Worry a lot if Fozzie, Masterplan, Rise, Veritas, Bettik, Ytterbium, Scarpia, Arrow, or even Greyscale leaves. Worry a little if Punkturis, karkur, SoniClover, Affinity, Goliath, or Xhagen leaves.

Bathory - Winterblot

Classic by and classic, this takes me back to my high school days.

Bathory's Hammerheart is my favourite metal album (and probably of all music genres too) but since you mentioned Vinterblot, I really like Foreverdark Woods from the Nordland album.

Hammerheart is definitely in my top few favourite albums - its amazing - Twilight of the Gods and Blood Fire Death are also very good albums as well.
Norland however was a good return to the Viking style of those albums and is well worth a listen. Foreverdark Woods is a great song ;)

Now i am onto A Fine Day to Die also by Bathory, love this song

Katatonia - Dead Letters

A bit more chilled in my tastes today - still a great song though
