[Cloaking] Cloaks that Generate Heat

So we've all had the AFK cloaker hop in system and sit around for hours on end. Its fun when you're doing it, and annoying when you're on the other end. We've all read countless ideas on how to fix this, from making cloakies probe-able to making cloak detection fields and all kinds of other stuff. So while bantering in corp chat, I cooked up this little idea.

Make cloaks generate heat when active. Give them low heat values and decent HP, so that they can run for say an hour or two, but then they overheat and cook themselves. This creates a situation where the tactical use of cloaks is not impeded at all, nor do any new game mechanics need to be added. If the HP/heat values are balanced right, then they won't be able to be used as cheap high slot heat sinks either.

With heat, an AFK cloaky comes into system, cloaks up, and 2 hours later, he's melted his cloak and severely damaged his top rack, and we can then probe his ass down. The cloaky pilot can of course drop cloak and enter warp to safely let his cloak cool, or he can decloak and pop his micro to let it cool, but in every situation he must be active in the system or risk killing his cloak completely.

By forcing the cloaky pilot in question to stop using his cloak long enough for it to cool, it also offers defensive players the chance to scan him down, and at least determine what they're fighting. This could lead to more calculated decisions on what to fly while under the eye of a cloaky, and in turn could lead to more interesting fights as the cloaky brings in support.

Maybe you should visit nearest medic center to stop your paranoya and *fear* or loosing your shinny ship during carebearing instead?
Or maybe your Bot doesn't like afk cloaker much?

Go and rat as usual, stay alligned, check d-scan often, check for combat probes and you will stay alive. Pu**y.

Sounds like a direct nerf against in-game intel gathering.

Cyno's lit, bridge is up, but one pilot won't be jumping home.

Why not just implement a AFK system? If player doesn't move his in-game mouse for an hour he gets kicked?

i flew into there territory and afk cloakied them then launched bombs at there capitals off station for 4 and a half hours....
1. it pissed them off even more (yay for pew pew)
2. i got bored and cleaned
3. the **** they say in local to you when your gone effin funny
4. I need a bigger cargo hold so i can hold more bombs.

Thinking i should do it more often :)
but yes when people do it to me i get irritated so if it keeps happening chuck an alt in there home system and do the same back
if they have 1 alt afk organise 3 people with alts to do it in there system

So a normal day for you is maybe an hour of PVP in lowsec before work. You leave for work afk cloaking in low sec. Get back from work late uploading chat logs to your phone and crawl into your bed where you lol and giggle before you fall asleep because atleast you could **** people off without breaking a sweat for several hours?

Don't get me wrong, I think this is the sort of game where pissing people off is alright and should not be removed. But to me there's a line; when a player can **** someone off for 9 hours without even being active then it has crossed that line.

Imagine if you were the carebear and you wanted to go out and PVE but you couldn't because you had a contact in your system that you knew nothing about, only that you were PVE fitted and wouldn't stand a chance against a PVP ship with a decent player behind the screen. Maybe you'll take the chance and do some PVE while fanatically hitting Dscan hoping you'll catch the ship warping to you in time to escape. I might not happen for hours but you know, sooner or later that person is coming back and he's going to kill you.

Don't know why I took the time to write this knowing you'll more and likely give me the finger because you don't care what happends to carebear because you're not one of 'em so why should you care. As long as you can have your fun right?

What i'm suggesting is compromise; If player doesn't move his mouse for and hour or two he'll be kicked from the game. Or something similar!

Here I am, agreeing with you. I don't want to make this a trend, start being unreasonable again or i might start to like you.

Last time there was an afk cloaker in my system, I ratted. I ratted solo, with no back up for hours and hours and hours, Sanctums & Havens were all mine because everyone else was docked up scared. It was the most ISK I've ever made ratting in a day.

I took the risk, I reaped the rewards. It was after that day that I started afk cloaking myself, I began to understand the reasons why people do it. Try it before you form an opinion on it, you may like it and your point of view might surprise you.

I have no doubt that i'd like it but I know i'm not the only one playing the game. Ruining it for others and pissing them off is something i'm brilliant at but to be able to do it hours and hours with no restriction is just too much..

I have tried it, it's part of why I said it's a lot of fun doing it yourself. I however feel that it is a broken game mechanic, maybe I'm just old fashioned, but I feel I should have to at least warp around for a couple seconds to validate my asshattery.

Why is this needed? Cloaks are fine and balanced.

As far as AFKing is concerned, it requires the same amount of input as gathering intel from the local channel. The difference is, that intel from the local channel is a guarantee, whereas the psychological effects from AFKing are not.

You, no sarcasm, are awesome.

People whine about not being handed free rides, and you actually give them a pro-active response.

I happen to sit on both sides of this issue, being an indy player who is also trained in CovOps.

From that perspective, I can say cloaks are not broken. Those ships are already heavily penalized, and depend on group coordination to do anything but watch you.
Worry more about the speed ganker.

First of all, dont get baited by the trolls.I mean what you expect form people that play the game in safe mode.Second. hundrends and hundrends of proposals show up, other good or bad from the players.I think its time for CCp to take a position on the matter.Post in my thread.Lets put pressure on CCP to try and fix another game problem, (because its THEIR job to do so) like they are trying to do these days..Thank you for your time.

If i sound too evangelical, pardon my manners.

You really should try to find another way to derail a discussion for problem A by bringing Promblem B on it.
