As long as we're sprucing up the GUI with lights and animations...

How about a "Final Approach" glide path into the stations upon being cleared to enter? Be better than just blinking out, and maybe even something similar for drone recapturing? Just thinking...

Forum Rep for a bunch of characters, couple corps and one seriously Lost In Space multiboxer.

As long as I could turn it off. I don't personally want to have to spend an extra 10 seconds on another animation every time I dock

As long as I can still shoot you while you're watching the animation. We don't need more invulnerability timers than we already have.

There's two ways I see this working.

1. This requires all player ships entering/exiting stations to line up into a queue and stay in space while slowly approaching the docking bays, which leaves them highly vulnerable to being ganked or even bumped out of line.

2. When entering a station you pop out of existence as usual, but now have to sit through a prerendered cutscene of watching your ship slowly float in from space and into the docking bay.

Both of these are incredibly inefficient and would get old fast, not to mention too dangerous/abusable in the case of the former option.

There's a glide into the hangar when you dock, it could be an extra animation like that before your ship flies into the center of the hangar and all the buttons and station services would be usable. But instead of only gliding to the center of your hangar you'd get a few extra second of. Approaching and going through the interior of the station where you see all the ships flying by in the background. That could work but sometimes your in and out so fast to drop something off you wouldn't even see it.

So make a long, pointless, boring cinematic even longer and more boring? Yeah, this is a good idea.

Besides, if you know the lore, the camera blacking out isn't immersion breaking. You're simply disconnecting from your orbiting camera drone while making the transfer.

The current "glide into the hangar" animation is very new, and is annoying as it is.
