Need a burner mission ship

So just completed my first level 4 mission and was then offered a burner mission right away. The mission is Anomic Base, destroy 3 burner Talos.

I've been trying to research this rather thoroughly before jumping into it, as I understand they can be quite difficult. It appears that I cannot use the (most) recommended ship class for this - heavy assault cruisers. It would take at least a month for me to skill into one of those.

Would there be anything else suitable for me that would run this mission? I didn't see anything mentioning attack battlecruisers (Tornado, Oracle, etc). Would a Naga be able to handle it?

Here is a brief rundown of my skills. If you need more, feel free to ask.

All races:

Frigate 4
Destroyer 5
Cruiser 3
Battlecruiser 5

I have pretty good shield skills and can fit T2 tank. My armor skills are lacking. I have good capacitor and powergrid - all 4s and 5s. The best weapon skill I have is missiles, although nowhere near maxed. I have some gun training, not a lot.

Thanks.

EDIT: Drones skills - not so much :( I can field 5, lights and mediums, tech 1.

Give me your opinion on (I could fly these):

Orthrus
Phantasm
Vigilant
Kolmogorow
Freedom Resources

A Worm seems to work. Not very fast in completing the mission because it lacks the dps of a HAC but it looks quite safe and the fitting that he's using in the video is cheap. Tanking in this mission is key, as far as I remember. The three Talos hit from huge distance and you basically have to tank the long way until you get close enough to deal damage. Speed tank with transversal while you are approaching in a slight angle, signature tank (maybe that's why a frig is actually not a bad choice) and potentially tank against thermal/kinetic, but he doesn't have any tank modules at all in the video, it's all based on speed and low sig. Plus careful piloting to avoid triggering the sentry turrets. Good luck!

Was waiting to hear from others here, but haven't gotten anything after a couple of days.

My concern with the worm is that it seems to do most of its damage with drones, and I have low drone skills, meaning, only tech 1 drones, and nothing fancy like drone link amplifiers or whatever.

What's the dps I'd need to kill one of these Taloses? And what speed will I need to be able to catch him and stay with him?

Would any of the ships I listed (Vigilant, etc) be able to run this with my skills?

For the Talos burner mission the best ship I have found is the Vagabond with active shield tank and MWD.

You have to be careful as the alpha from the NPC ships is very high when they hit.

Well like I said, I haven't skilled into heavy assault cruisers, and it looks like it would take me a month to do it. I'm wondering if something like a properly fit caracal could do it?

You could attempt to do it but I'm not sure how well it would go. The Caracal lacks speed, dps, and tank compared to the Vaga. If you did manage to do it, I imagine it would be a struggle.

Here is the Vagabond fit for reference:

2815ms
560+ dps
15ehp

Low slots:
Gyrostabilizer II
Gyrostabilizer II
Gyrostabilizer II
Overdrive Injector System II
Damage Control II

Mid slots:

Shadow Serpentis 50MN Microwarpdrive
Pith X-Type Kinetic Deflection Field
Pith C-Type Large Shield Booster
Medium Electrochemical Capacitor Booster I, Cap Booster 800

High slots:
425mm AutoCannon II, Hail M
425mm AutoCannon II, Hail M
220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II, Hail M
[empty high slot]
425mm AutoCannon II, Hail M
425mm AutoCannon II, Hail M

Rigs:

Medium Core Defense Capacitor Safeguard II
Medium Anti-Thermal Screen Reinforcer II

Drones:
Hobgoblin II x5

In Cargo:
Hail M
Cap Booster 800

I'd recommend you skip burners if you don't have the skills for them. You take no penalty to declining burner missions in any way, even after accepting them.

Start off with getting Caldari frig V and strong rocket skills (and missile range/application skills). This will open up the 4 Team burners. Then get shield tanking skills as this will open up the Serpentis Agent. From there grab either all the other shield tanked burner builds or get armor tanking up and do that. It'll depend on your current skill set.

I already have pretty much maxed shield skills. I guess its frig V for me then.

By the way, for the record, you doubt I could run this in a Vigalent? Looks superficially similar to me in power to a heavy assault cruiser, but what do I know?

The Vigilant I believe is the best alternative specifically for that mission yes. Slower to get to the enemy but packs more punch when it does. There should be a fit for it in the Burner mega thread https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=369477&find=unread Although I have not used it myself.

Edit: Deimos, not vigilant, my bad.

its not only about the power. the main reason is the tank. with the deimos you get 92 % resists kin/therm and you have a repair bonus as well as the vagabond. maybe a vigilant can handle it but dont blame us if not.

and remember your armorskills are lacking.

my advice is the same as anizes.

Herp Derp, I was thinking about the Deimos, not the Vigilant for the Serp base burner. You know how all those gallente ships look the same Pirate

I doubt a Vigilant can run it. As Ploing said, it's mostly about the tank.

Declined mission. Had no idea about the difficulty and skilling required to run burners. This is going to be much more of a skill and time grind than I had anticipated. I may get more bang for the buck doing something else besides running level 4s, so time to reevaluate things I guess.

Level 4s are still quite profitable with out burners. Burners just offer an increase in rewards for much higher difficulty and were really added for those people who have mastered other level 4 missions to give them a challenge. Hence the reason there is no penalty to declining them.
