1 - Saw a couple containers in space near a gate last night, and they were blue in the overview. I've seen yellow containers, and red ships, but never blue containers. What does the blue indicate?

2 - Recycling modules found as loot. I went to about 6 citadels that advertise 52% or 54% reprocessing, but I got 50% from all of them. What am I missing here? Does the upgraded reprocessing from a citadel require something else to work?

Thanks,

Tat

Blue means the containers are abandoned.

IIRC, the only thing that gives an above-50% rate for scrapmetal is an upgraded minmatar outpost. Or they did at one point. Not sure if they still do. POS modules might as well, not sure on that, I don't refine much scrap metal and it's usually more of an, "I don't want to deal with this crap so POOF!" thing than anything else.

In either event, there are no scrapmetal refining rigs for Citadels.

1 - So, if abandoned, can I just go take them, and their contents?

2 - So the advertised 52% or 54% refining only applies to ore, then? That might explain why, when I open the reprocessor window, it doesn't show an efficiency percentage until I put something into the input side of the window.

For citadels/ECs, what it applies to is going to depend on the rigs installed, the options for which also depend on the citadel or EC size.

Medium rigs are split into 4 - HS ore, Low/null ore. For Ice, the split is racial (I forget the exact makeup, there), with both rigs including the non-isotope ices.

Large rigs are "Ore" or "Ice"

XL rigs cover reprocessing in general, though as far as I know, they still don't do anything for scrapmetal. vOv

For scrapmetal, there is the Scrapmetal Processing skill. Get that to 5 in a long train and you can have 55% efficiency when reprocessing.

Honestly, not really worth it unless you process an assload of modules and stuff like that.

Yes. Blue wrecks are open for anybody. However (but not every time) anything good has already been taken out of them before they were "blued" (abandoned).

Is the abandoned state triggered by a timer, or set once somebody opens it?

I disagree with this. Abandoning your wrecks even if you are going to loot or salvage them later is a common practice among all mission runners that I know, simple security trick we learned long ago. If they cannot steal from it they have to attack your directly and suffer Concord's wrath or fly away and look for another target. Yes this does mean that the real ninja salvage players can simply warp in and take stuff but to be honest with the low value of most mission loot and salvage these days few people actually do it.

That and every blue wreck I have ever found in this game still had most if not all of the stuff still in it including the salvage items.

The owner can set a container or wreck blue by right-clicking it and choosing "abandon." The blue color indicates that Concord won't care if someone else takes the loot inside, so feel free.

Reprocessing has been nerfed heavily by CCP. We used to be able to get 90%-100% return with the skills trained, but CCP didn't like the fact that 70% of high-sec people would do missions and get so much loot reprocessed that they'd make more minerals than the 20% players that mined (statistics pulled out of thin air, for illustration).

So they nerfed reprocessing, buffed mining, and now they're going to nerf mining, because when we get going with an activity we really get going (there are fleets made of hundreds of Rorquals in null, all mining; CCP didn't buff the Rorqual to make it a better miner, they buffed it to make it worth undocking and to make it a target for PVP; thus we're not doing what CCP intended).

Ah. Surely you're not disagreeing that the mechanic in place is that blue wrecks are open to anybody? Unless I'm greatly mistaken that is the way things are. No, your example would seem to illustrate just that, so it must be the "anything good has already been taken" bit. I suppose "good" is subjective. By good I meant things such as T2 / faction / officer mods and other things that could be used or sold for a little better isk. If the T1 gear often found in npc wrecks is useful for one, then I suppose that then makes it good. Relative, I suppose.

I'm afraid the last part confuses me slightly. As salvage and loot are two different things, and as salvaging a wreck will cause it to disappear and any loot items in the wreck to spawn in a container next to where the wreck was - could you have meant "including loot items rather than "including salvage items"? Please set me straight as needed.

Hi, im new one in Eve.

So, if i have 54% reprocess ore, its good?

Question: if i reprocess kernite or placioglase can i make some stuff with profit? or better sell this ore and go minning again?

If reprocess ore and make stuff is profitable, what stuff better do? Ships, ammo or what?

Good day!

Im old Dust 514 player (since 2012) Now i make first steps into Eve :)

54% is decent.

Reprocessing is just reprocessing. Ore, by itself, is useless in that the only thing you can do with it is turn it into minerals. And then the minerals are used for production.

So if you mine, you get a bunch of ore. And then you have 2 options for what to do with it:

1. You can sell the ore as it is. Other players will buy it from you, but they're looking for profit, so they won't offer a great price. The only thing they can do with the ore is reprocess it into minerals and then sell the minerals (for profit) or use the minerals for manufacture. If they buy the ore cheaply from you, they can make a profit selling the minerals.

2. You can refine the ore and turn it into minerals. Minerals are useful for production, so you will see pretty good competition to buy minerals. Which means it's likely you'll be able to find a decent price, when you start looking to sell.

So that's what reprocessing does for you.

Now, if you want to get into manufacturing, the profits from that are a whole different ball of twine. You need to:

1. Obtain minerals cheaply.
2. Find a product that is in demand and thus sells for a profit.
3. Research the blueprints to use fewer minerals and take a shorter time to make your stuff.
4. Find a station with production facilities that has LOW taxes and production fees.
5. Bring your minerals there without being ganked.
6. Produce (takes time).
7. Carry your product to a good location to sell (Jita?, or maybe a warzone, or a mission-runner location)
8. Sell the product with minimal taxes and broker fees (these are determined by Trading skills and by your standings).

So, can't really explain to you what's profitable and why, until you learn the game a little, to figure out what ships people like, and how they fit them. And where the various groups are active, and how they gather supplies for a war etc.

The easiest way to get into it is to join a corp. that operates somewhere in "dangerous" space and see if they'll let you manufacture some of the stuff they need. Possibly with your own blueprints, or copies provided by them. That way you don't have to deal with the whole complex "profit" thing, and can learn the manufacturing part while being useful to your corp.

Otherwise, ask for advice and help in the Science and Industry forum. Post that you're a newbie and ask for tips or how to start, and the experts should be able to give you some advice and pointers. I don't do manufacturing, unfortunately, sorry about that.

If you have access to a Citadel with ore compression, you might want to compress your ores there. You will 'shrink' them greatly which is handy for moving them. Additionally you typically get a better price for compressed ores.

Another tip is to not carry more in your ship than you are prepared to lose. If you mine in a busy system you can usually put the ore on the market sell orders for a reasonable price and people will buy them from you and save you the risk of moving them yourself.
A little trial and error will get you going.
