"Wing command 5 x up"

I keep seeing requests in fleets for someone with wing command 5, unrelated to links.

My understanding is that this doesn't do anything anymore, except for link range. Is there some effect that isn't listed in the skill description? I've heard at least one person say it gives an agility bonus, but my testing shows no difference.

Is this just old habits dying hard, or am I missing something?

Interesting. The fleet skills are mostly meaningless now, some are pre-requisites for other skills but there is no fleet bonus related anymore.

If i remember right, WC gives +5% range per level for boosts. Training WC V will just give +5% range, which is not a lot for a month-long training. However, WC V also unlocks Fleet Command, and each level gives +6% range. And training the first three levels can be done in a day for a wooping +18% range.

The above message presents my opinions on the topic at hand. If there is a conflict between my views and reality, consider reality to be correct until proven otherwise.

Yep, I know all that.

I'm just wondering why FCs keep asking for WC 5 for wing commander positions (not for boosters!) because every indication is that it is completely irrelevant (and, in fact, the command positions are largely irrelevant themselves).

Was just wondering if I was missing some sort of secret, or if they didn't get the memo.

Pretty sure they just didn't get the memo, and it's just ingrained reflex from years past. Wing Command skill has no relevance to your position in the fleet heirarchy anymore, AFAIK.
