Extreme lag when not docked in a station.

As of a couple of days ago, whenever I log into a character that is not docked into a station I experience extreme UI/graphics lag - my mouse frequently freezes, and when it is not frozen the UI takes easily ten or more seconds to even respond to a mouseover - let alone me clicking. I have tried almost all combinations of graphical settings, and made a new character in a different part of space to confirm it is not just the area I'm in that is causing the lag. It's getting to the point that I'm starting to consider uninstalling this game, as I cannot leave the station my main character is in without deliberating lag - and I cannot make an alt as the NPE is unbearable under this lag.
