Make bubbles a 2d UI feature

I can't think of a single MMO that avoids the problem of large fights becoming a clusterfuck of sparkly multicoloured fairydust explosions that, and only with extensive knowledge of game mechanics, one can barely keep track of. In my opinion it turns what could be a cool looking, readable fight between two or more large groups of players into photon soup.

EVE does a pretty good job of making many abilities invisble, which also ties in well with the fact that these abilities are not magic. However, fleet fights often devolve into photon soup clusters of bubbles. I suggest making these bubbles into simple 2d grey rings that only appear when the UI is turned on, and also is visible as an effect above the health bars, with it's own icon.

Why would you make a 3d object only show in 2d? What if I'm off on the Z axis?

And how is a dictor pilot supposed to know if he's got the supers bubbled if bubbles don't show up?

Besides, who stays zoomed in for fleet fights?

It would orient to you as if on a gyrostabilizer.

I would like the same thing to happen in the probe interface too. If your in the map moving probes, the arrows should rotate and stay facing you instead of turning into little flat slivers that are hard to click unless you stop and rotate the camera back

The image is always facing you, like with the red fields in the probe scanning interface.

They do show up.

This is for those that do, while unaffecting those that don't

Simpler solution would be to properly implement the 'merging bubbles' they discussed a while back, while also making the bubbles more transparent the closer in you zoom (or an optional transparency setting).
EVE's graphics options need a significant overhaul in a number of ways.

One thing they specifically need is a 'Large fight' setting. I've seen it on other MMO's where there is a variable graphics setting that kicks in under certain conditions, and having that on EVE would allow you to enjoy good graphics in small fights but if they scale up then it automatically knocks your settings down to whatever you have asked it to do for a larger fight (Minimum, always minimum....) rather than having to manually jump in and do it while lagging because 500 people just landed on grid.

I did. I don't know WTF is going on anyway so I just look at pretty ships going boom and follow broadcast.

In the christmas spirit, I am once again the bearer of bad news for you. All of what you see on your screen is 2D at all times since it is displayed on a plain surface.

Everything that our primitive minds see as 3 dimensional objects with a "depth" layer is just a little math with Eigenvectors and coloration.

Which reminds me of closing holes with a hictor and getting blinded by the brightness of 6 hictor bubbles - yikes.

Eve Minions is recruiting.

This is the law of ship progression!

I've often asked what happened to this 'fluid bubble' theory

One way to do this though is let us shut bubbles off totally if we want. Then add a bubble icon over the capacitor if you are in one.
