Help with Career Agent Job- Missing Spy Bounty

Hi,
I'm totally new and I have just started my career agent missions in Trossere, I'm doing the Industrial missions first and I am on the 9th one. It tells me to fly to dead space, mine some ore and wait for a spy to come out of hiding, destroy the enemy ship and return the spy.

I mined for over an hour, a ship did come but it only had ammunition in the cargo hold, no spy, after that, nothing.
I waited until there were only two more rocks left to mine and then I gave up. I have not cancelled the mission but I wonder what I should do? If I cancel the will ruin my relationship with that career agent and it says he will no longer employ me.

Is this a bug or do I have to keep going back to the mission coordinates day after day until the spy enemy ship turns up?

any ides would be great please?
Thanks

I believe the intended behavior is that two ships will spawn, in separate waves. The first one does nothing useful. The second one drops a *cargo container* which contains the mission objective (it's not in the wreck). The ships should appear after one or two mining laser cycles each.

If the above didn't happen - a second ship never showed up, you've been mining for an hour and nobody appeared, a cargo container never dropped, etc. - then the mission is likely bugged. If that's the case, there are a couple options you can take here:

-Wait until after downtime (1100 UTC) and try again. Downtime will often reset the mission sites if the mission objectives haven't been completed, so you could get a second chance that way. (If you *got* the mission objective and just lost it - for example, because your ship was blown up or the container was allowed to despawn - I don't think this'll work.)

-Petition a GM to have your mission reset. They generally have relatively quick turnaround times for "stuck" petitions like this. I think you get there from somewhere in the F12 menu.

-Cancel the mission. Note that for career agent missions, if you cancel the mission, you will not be able to resume the mission chain - the mission chain from them is lost forever. (For regular missions that aren't from career agents, you take a modest standings penalty and get offered a new one.) If you do this, note that each race has three career agent systems, and only the specific agent you chose is flagged "finished", so you can fly to another career agent system and start the chain again.

Career agent missions aren't mandatory - there's nothing they do that's "required" for anything else or unlocks anything else, they don't lock you into anything, they don't represent any kind of permanent choice - so if you wound up just abandoning it entirely, you wouldn't be losing out on a whole lot, just a million or two worth of rewards and a bit of standings, nothing that can't be replaced elsewhere.

They're mostly for the learning experience, and a bit of starting cash/ships, most of which you've already gotten by getting to mission 9 (the chains are 10 missions long, except Exploration). I'd recommend trying to finish it with one of the above methods, but if it winds up not working out or is stressing you out unduly, don't worry too much about skipping it :)

Hi Seymarr,

Thank you very much for your detailed helpful response, I appreciate it very much.

I totally understand all the options you have given me, and I think I might wait for the re-spawn first in the hope that it does actually work, If not then I'll try F12 like you said and ask for help to have it reset. I would like to finish all the mission chains just to have a tidy introduction to the game, and the money would be good too.

So I guess I'll go slow and try to solve it, If all else fails I could start up somewhere else as a last resort after cancelling as you suggested.

Thank you once again,

I assume you did, but make sure you warp to the mission location, and not a random asteroid belt. I think it might only have 1 or 2 rocks to mine in total.

That paticular mission location should have a couple of Kernite asteroids present for you to mine. Also there should be a single ship appearing which after being destroyed should drop a container (not the ship wreck) in which you will find the traitor.

Soon to be Trading Alt. All future Forum activities will be conducted by Akane Togenada who for all purposes and until further notice shall be considered the "Main" of this player.

I had someone a few months ago with the same problem - turned out they were mining at a belt rather than the mission pocket. That doesn't work! Mission objectives will only spawn in the space specifically created for the mission. As stated, you will find a number of Kernite asteroids there - these are fairly valuable and worth harvesting.

@OP: File a petition (stuck) and ask the GMs nicely to reset the mission.

Remove standings and insurance.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for your responses,

Yes the location I warped to using the info panel did have about 10 Kernite asteroids small in size, and the enemy ship that came fairly quickly did leave a wreck, which I had to inspect.

So I think the location was right (maybe) but the mission settings might not have been? Mara Pahrdi, you said remove insurance and standings? as it happens I did insure the ship, and my standings have risen a small amount so far, do these factors cause a bug? I will remove the insurance just in case, but my standings might be fixed. thanks in any case.

I'll try again later today, hoping for a re-spawn at the location and maybe it will work.
Thanks for your pointers I appreciate them.

Cheers,

Heh - for reference, the "remove standings and insurance" is their signature, not part of their post. It's a complaint that (in their eyes) standings and insurance are bad game mechanics, directed at CCP, not advice given to you for your problem :)

Check you overview. It is possible that you haven' t enabled the cargo container and missed it.
If that happened it despawned after 2 hours.
If that has happened you need to petition for a reset.

Look on the left of your screen, where you find the Agent mission description. If there is a cross hair beside the name of the mission you can hover over it and it will open a small windows with what you need to enable in overview (just discovered this little trick while doing a mission).
Or otherwise you can open your overview setting and update them manually.

Hi Shayla,

Thanks for your tip, I'll check it out for future reference, in the end I pressed F12 and submitted a ticket, and the moderators reset the mission for me, it worked second time round.

Thanks you guys for all your help,

cheers
